    Nobody thinks that's acceptable.

    Not quite sure what it is but assuming you mean where the country is on Brexit then I don't think you can blame May fully for calling the referendum in the first place as that was David Cameron.

    You also can't blame her for the behaviour of a large swathe of her backbenchers and ex-ministers for the way they have defined the Brexit vote as meaning only the version of Brexit that they hold dear and for vilifying anyone in government or out who offers alternative views of what the best Brexit is for the country.

    You can blame her for:

    Triggering Article 50 before any meaningful strategic or detailed planning had commenced on how the two year period would be managed;
    Calling a general election that took three months out of that timeline and campaigning in such a negative way that it weakened her position both with Parliament, Government and her own party having to rely on the DUP to maintain a meaningful majority and prone to making concessions to them;
    Setting an unnecessary set of red lines in the negotiations on the customs union, single market and the role of the ECJ that either boxed negotiators in or allowed her to look weak when they were tempered;
    Signing up to the NI border backstop in December 2107;
    Crafting the Chequers proposal as her blueprint for the way forward that had the unique ability of uniting Remainers, Brexiteers and the EU in its rejection;
    Alienating the EU with a strategy of trying to by-pass its negotiating team in the hope of picking off individual governments resulting in her humiliation at Salzburg.

    Wasn't it Harry Truman who had something on his desk that stated "the buck stops here". Given she has been Prime Minister for all but a few days since the Brexit vote who do you think should get most of the blame?

    December 2107 does sound like a realistic time for the Northern Ireland conundrum to reach its conclusion.

    Pedant, you should be focusing on the Trump Russia collusion delusion and have little time for such pithy observations!

    He dropped that one like a ton of bricks and went off with his tail between his legs. I am glad to see he is making a comeback though, even if it is a somewhat subdued attempt

    Re: Theresa May faces 'show trial' by Tory MPs' and told to "bring your own noose"

    And let's not pretend that the opposition care about us either , with the ( lack of detail) 6 point plan, that means , whatever is agreed they won't back anyway .
    It's pure electioneering theatre , and a chance to grab power, which is clever stuff, just wish they had thd balls to say it out loud .

    I reckon they could grab power by simply asking for a second referendum, they'd have the backing of Europe at least :

    Labour's 6 test
    (If anyone has any details, actuals , numbers ,targets, performance measures, please fill them in, perhaps I've missed them )

    1. Does it ensure a strong and collaborative future relationship with the EU? (Easily measured I guess ,not sure what it means )

    2. Does it deliver the “exact same benefits” as we currently have as members of the Single Market and Customs Union?
    ( well no , how can it ,we're out, we want go trade with others)

    3. Does it ensure the fair management of migration in the interests of the economy and communities?( fair management ?? figures by region, impact to the actual local effected economy, region please )

    4. Does it defend rights and protections and prevent a race to the bottom? ( how will we measure the race to the bottom)

    5. Does it protect national security and our capacity to tackle cross-border crime?
    ( great soundbite, will mean use of the nasty military ,Trident ,Arms, spooks, and tighter immigration checks )

    6. Does it deliver for all regions and nations of the UK? ( targets ,
    actual regions , industries effected like fisheries , would be nice )

    The grab of power for Labour is greater than being big enough to seek a cross party collaborative colation agreement on this single matter, for the benefit of the people ,which would probaly put them deservedly into power anyway .

    Deflecting much. This is about a few vile Brexiteer MPs feeling so comfortable in their position that they can say disgusting things about their own leader.

    Dai Davis is about the only MP I can think of who I wouldn't mind having a few pints with. I imagine Labour would dread him more than anyone else as Tory leader.

    You’ve done your usual of slagging out Labour (don’t get me wrong Corbyn isn’t the messiah his fans think he is) giving the Tories a free pass when in fact the references to May being hung or whatever have come from her more increasingly by the day right wing brexiter lunatics who promise the Earth but would be incapable of delivering **** all except even more humiliation and derisory laughter from everyone else in Europe

    Well a big mass of their voters did ?

  20. #20

    Re: Theresa May faces 'show trial' by Tory MPs' and told to "bring your own noose"

    61% of conservatives voters and 35% of labour voters chose to leave. Bear in mind this was after an election where labour lost the popular vote 36-30%. It is pretty clear brexit is something initiated by the tories, in the most part voted for by Tory voters and now Tory mps have decided they want to hang the prime minister because she isn't doing what they want. That is the story, no matter how much you try to deflect this shambles onto the opposition.

    Lib Dem voters chose to leave at almost the same rate as labour voters btw

    No-one was actually quoted as saying that she should bring her own noose, unless I am mistaken.

    Because they would be kicked out of the party already. Nothing juicy is said on the record.
