Apparently we were close to getting him in the transfer window, probably only the premier League window closing first gave villa the edge.
He's scored 10 in the last 10 games (7 in the last 4!)
Do you think he would have been a success for us if he had come here? There are also rumours that Chelsea will recall him in January. Not sure whether that is to play him, or send him or loan him to a higher league
What's he like at holding the ball up? We're quite passive in midfield as our tackling stats suggest; we're happy enough to let the opposition have the ball then get it forward quickly to play on the break. Villa look like a side (when I've seen them lately) that can keep possession and get crosses into the box. No, because we don't create chances. All our strikers are on a hiding to nothing and "tap in Tammy" is a good goalscorer and would probably do well for someone else but we need to sort our midfield out just as badly.
He wouldn’t have scored more than Paterson has for us. The system is the issue for me.
From what I've seen he's tall and mobile, but still a bit on the gangley side.
Not a pushover, but not going to beat up defenders either.
That said if he was great at holding the up and prolific at scoring then he probably wouldn't be on loan at villa.

I mean, it's possible he could make the step up and be successful, look at Harry Kane, but Hudson-Odoi seems to be ahead of him at Chelsea and he's what, 3 years younger?
How many of our other players would have been breaking into the Chelsea team at 18?
Or even how many of Chelsea's current players would have been?
Being good enough for Chelsea and being good enough for the Premier League are two very different things.

Abraham is shipped out on loan season after season whereas Hudson-Odoi is on the fringes of the first team at Chelsea.
He was probably put off going back to South Wales by having to work in Swansea.
Chelsea isn't the benchmark for Premier League quality. A lot of players such as Danny Drinkwater aren't good enough for Chelsea but would easily get in a lot of Prem sides. Just because they're playing at Chelsea, doesn't mean they're bad players.
For me Abraham is exactly what we need. He's not going to score lots because we don't create a lot but he's a threat in all areas needs to be bigger enough to score problems and quick enough to get behind and run channels. I would still play Patterson behind him

Chose to go play beneath his level so he could bang the goals in, we don't need people with that little desire in the squad right now.
It was more likely that the club made the decision than him
He's an asset on Chelsea's books and the value of that asset will increase more if he plays most weeks and scores 20+ in the championship, rather than being a bit part player for a PL club. Purely a business decision.

However, his confidence is probably sky high at the moment. Yes, there's a step up to Premier League football, but it's easy to become deflated in a struggling side.
Ah probably true, just frustrating to see another decent young player completely wasted by a big club. Bring on the super league or some rules around player hoarding/constant loaning.
Our players don't look deflated, looks like a great team to be part of at the moment to me.
