It only irks me because I think the poorer members of society will be hit hardest again, I have a passport for an EU country and can speak a foreign language so it won’t personally affect me.

Perhaps the OP is a Communist who denies freedom of speech and disagrees with democracy. There are prominent senior Labour politicians who have such leanings and he might be another one.
