I agree with Splotty. Always thought he was about as funny as an orphanage burning down.

Exactly, I’m not going to praise him because he’s passed away.

    Re: Freddie Starr Gone

So you started a thread to have a pop at someone who has passed away, what does that say about you.

I think his comedic genius can be measured by the response of other celebrities as mentioned in the BBC news page, tributes from - Bobby Davro, Jim Davidson and Amanda Hoden.

It says, like me, he didn’t find Freddie Start very funny. That’s about it in a nutshell.

Good comedy and good music will always span the generations.

Does happen but it’s very very rare.

I don’t think stand up comedy spans the generations, as it’s mostly about current affairs, but TV comedy such as OFAH can.

To comment in an ongoing thread that you didn't find someone funny I can understand, but to start the thread yourself with the intention of just being negative just doesn't seem right.

His routine about singers miming to tapes was very well done and funny. His story to Mohammed Ali on Parko was great, but can't think of too many other routines that he did that were memorable.

I never found him funny, but comedy, like music is very subjective.
And I certainly wouldn't be able to make a living from either.

Comedy and music definitely do date arguably comedy more so than music these days.
Both are at their best when they seem new, inventive and daring, and that is always lost with the passage of time.
Watching only fools these days is the televisual equivalent of putting on a well worn pair of slippers.
Someone might be absolutely enjoying listening to Stravinsky's the rite of Spring on BBC radio 3, but the original performance of it caused riots.

It's amusing that the following instrumental track was banned by radio stations in New York and Boston in 1958 as it was considered that it may incite violence.
