I was in a well-known supermarket chain this morning when 'Band of Gold' by Freda Payne was played over the PA system. It's a song I always associate with my early days supporting City at Ninian Park.
I associate it with the waft of 'Juicy Fruit' on the terraces, the tall weeds growing around the floodlights, standing on what were like railway sleepers on the Grange End (and the rubbish piling up underneath them), the smell of greasy pies, the ads for 'Bif-Baf Bingo' and 'Golden Goal' tickets and the visible steam rising from the al fresco urinals at the far end of the Bob Bank. Oh, and the weird guy who used to pace back and forth shouting out 'C'mon the City' in a strained voice every few seconds.
The Millwall fans overturning a hot dog stand when attacking the Grange End from the Bob Bank and the Police having problems getting their Alsations to follow as their charges chose to devour aforementioned comestibles instead.
Other songs I associate with City around that time (and it seemed that they only had about 5 records in their collection were:
Monkey Spanner by Dave and Ansell Collins
Patches by Clarence Carter
Give me just a little more time - Chairman of the Board
What songs do you associate with City and why?
'Something' by Shirley Bassey always seemed to be played as well in the late 60s. I remember 'Hey Jude' as well being played a lot at that time. Or so it seems to my memory. Both songs remind me of my earliest days of supporting the City

All of the above but most of all
Our version of Those were the days...my friend
In more recent times (I say that, I've been back in Wales for 8 years this season) when driving from London for Tuesday night games me and my mate would have Motorcycle Emptiness blasting as we crossed the bridge.
It's funny what memories stick in your mind, but I remember in the famous Hereford game in 1976, when sat at the back of the Canton Stand, they played "Oh What a Night" by The Four Seasons. Whenever I hear that song, it immediately it takes me back to one of the best nights ever at Ninian Park
Tina Charles "I love to love"
Unless we have any decent signings in the next 24hrs, I'd suggest this :

Ali's musical preferences were brilliant.
I've Got a Feeling from when we beat Leicester in the playoffs
Hey Jude.
Simply the best - Tina Turner, which the players walked out to early/mid nineties, which was ironic considering how shit we were in some of those seasons.
Yes you're right about "Something" although I don't especially remember them playing "Hey Jude", ( I'm sure they did).
The one I always recall is " I beg your pardon, I never promised you a Rose Garden" and the smell of pipe tobacco wafting more widely round the ground than you'd have thought possible without the USAF dropping napalm on a plantation.
Simply the best. Anyone remember that godawful song that osman insisted on? Bryan Adams, we’re gonna win. Or something
Love is the drug Roxy music

Who was that idiot who kept on shouting "make some noise"? I thought they were never going to get rid of him!
