Any travel tips re: Gambia and Senegal?

Off to Gambia in January and I'm just about to start planning. Any info would be gratefully received.
I prefer to bum around on local transport and not stay in soulless hotels.....

Lovely lovely people, I stayed in basic hotel, near beach. Can’t remember where, tip go visit local schools, really moving, if you Any spare football tops bring them, I gave a few Fulham tops to guys that worked on beach, they wore them with pride

Fair play, TBG has a bigger carbon footprint than Greta, how are we going to get to 25% when those who virtual signal the loudest abuse the most? Lovely view of the med this morning from the hotel balcony, warm but a little cloudy in Teneriffe, 1. 5 euro a pint on average, Teide 😂

Can you just turn up at a school though? I have helped children read in a local school down here in Somerset and would love to contribute in whatever way possible.

As for taking football shirts: I don't want to be defending "Warnockball" lest I be challenged in the playground.....

I am a supporter of a small charity that provides support to a village in The Gambia. We have built a school that now has 700 pupils in two shifts, a medical centre and a maternity unit. A Dutch charity has provided two ambulances.

If you do visit any schools please take a box of pencils, as they will be greatly appreciated.

Oh and make sure that you have all of your jabs.

Just had a look on the map to see where the fuk it is lol, (I have been here once before!!!) closer to The Gambia than the med, oh well dust myself down and go again nice and warm, a euro a pint don't think I'll lose any sleep except to the boom boom disco going on until 6.00 am on Veronicas strip, Brain injury is not all its cracked up to be, lovely sunset this evening.
