"has it occurred to anyone that this would mean that they'd control what people could or couldn't see or say on the Internet ?"
"They already do don't they?"
"He means Labour" - as in "he only cares if a Labour government were controlling what people could or couldn't see on the internet."
I thought it was self-explanatory, sorry
We are behind Madagascar with fast Broadband availability for Gods sake. This is a radical idea and I like it. So much negativity about this.
If a socialist Government post war can make a success of the NHS then there is no reason why Broadband fee for all nationwide cannot work. This will speed up the way we work for so many people bringing about an increase in productivity. It will pay for itself.
No doubt the Tories will continue to trash this initiative then at the next election include it as one of their own policies just like they did with Ed Miliband’s energy cap.
Well , some of the poor buggers in question would be elderly people whose pension funds hold stock in these tech giants , but of course the tech giants you speak of would just move to China.
It will infuriate the gang of three when I say that I was chatting with a BBC correspondent this evening and we agreed that only 20 years ago this single policy would have ended Corby's chances of election, but we wondered whether dumbing down might mean that the idea could be taken seriously.
I see the know everything about everything trio have given this idea the thumbs down. No surprise there then, after all a bunch of old men who have probably just about mastered texting are, surely, best qualified to pass judgement on this plan. However, speaking as an old man who has been left behind somewhat by the digital revolution myself, this sounds an honourable aim to me which is, almost certainly doomed to failure because of entrenched attitudes which think solely in terms of the, failed, economics of the last forty years - the irony is that next month will probably see the election of the most right wing Government of our lifetimes , more than likely with a majority, at a time when we are all still feeling the effects of the failures of capitalism.
I may be partially responsible for this in my own small way because I'm far from certain to vote for the only other party that can, realistically, be expected to form a Government , but I'm a little more likely to vote Labour today than I was on Thursday because of this policy.
Johnson thinks it's a "crazed communist scheme"

I'm liking this idea more every minute .
Although the Tories have history for throwing around political labels in an attempt to frighten Joe and Joanne Public who don't know what they mean, but know they are supposed to be 'bad'. Ed Milliband's plans for a cap on energy prices was denounced as Marxist or quasi-Marxist state intervention (depending on source) but ended up in Theresa May's Conservative Party Manifesto two years later!
It is either gross hypocrisy or (like the alt-right gang on here) they don't know the meaning of the words they use.
Who are the "alt right" gang here then ?
I ask you in your capacity as a member of the "alt wrong" faction.
I don't think libraries were a labour idea were they ?
Well yes Eric. I'm not a conservative ,as I keep saying , but it's assumed that if you think one party is bad, it can only be because you're keen on the other. That's an awful reflection upon how much people are brainwashed into accepting Hobson's choice in politics.
Be happy you're in the old man brigade
Not sure exactly what age you have to be to get into your club?, (60/65)? 60 in 17 months can I get an early entry? although I'll be happy enough to get to 60 in the 1st instance.
I think I would have been happier to see either party, to add a levy to food giants and give a £30 food voucher to those who need it
rather than give away a freebie which isn't a basic life requirement. Giving people a better internet connection seems more appealing to voters than giving an equivalent value in food to those who have none. and I'm sure those living in boxes all over the country are getting super excited at the prospect of a fibre cable connected to their cardboard box. Although from a government perspective, perhaps the thought of getting more people online for longer gives them more ability to keep on dumbing down.
#Epstein didn't kill himself
Anons knew.
Enjoy the show.
Careful If you dont agree with the new Labour project, your constantly a Tory.
One must learn not challenge the socialist, or there views.
How one can be accused of being right wing by not feeling at ease with Corbyn is beyond me, there are millions of decent moderate social minded centralists, who think the same , and they wont vote for Labour or Tory on Dec 12th
You might be sure, I'm not. Brexit could have been handled differently and, between them, Labour and the Lib Dems are handing the election to a truly inept Prime Minister and governing party. I also would be very uncomfortable voting for a party that has been the subject of antisemitism allegations which, for me have at least an element of truth in them - the only way I think I'll vote Labour is if it comes down to a straight fight between them and the Conservatives that they have a chance of winning.
