Should they be released from prison if they haven’t revealed the whereabouts of their victim?
As in the case this week of Ian Simms.
Means that those who are innocent are never leaving...
As mentioned on the beeb arlier, if there hadn't been a general election, a nee law would have been in place preventing their release.
Now it will have to start all over again - too late for the case entioned above
no
but, as a side question
should convicted murderers EVER be released from prison ? ? ?
If he has always declared his innocence (I don't know in this case) how can a convicted man tell anyone where the body of someone he didn't kill is?
Good cases for both sides ^^
If there is no doubt whatsoever of the convicted person being the murderer, then no definitely not.
I was reading this morning about the number of prison officers being assaulted. It's on the rise and at record levels. Much of the reason given is that there is a lack of prison officers and there's an unusually young and inexperienced prison staff nowadays.
My point is that the prison service is woefully underfunded, which is why prisoners are afforded early releases. We can argue about whatever we want with regard the justice service, but unless this government is prepared to fund it, it's all hot air. My prediction is that things will get worse as tax cuts for the wealthy and refusal to clamp down on tax avoidance means less public money and more criminals spending less time in prison.
Everything is underfunded now. Recently, we had choice between government who said they'd spend more but didn't explain enough what changes would be made to mean it wasn't just throwing endless money around and a government who said we'll only spend many more billions on something almost no one outside their party cared about, leaving everything else underfunded and people to fend for themselves with less and less each year. Majority chose the latter.
Yesterday was "time to talk day" and one tweet made the point that this government wants us to be aware of mental health, not to fund any changes to make countries mental health better or offer more support, but for people to be aware of it.
You can’t pull your socks up if you haven’t got any, the wealthiest in the land are most probably paying the least percentage into the country’s coffers using various ‘legal’ schemes and loopholes that are more or less condoned by the present government Who sailed into power recently with a healthy majority . The public gets what the public wants.......
In this particular case, the individual concerned has always declared his innocence despite overwhelming forensic evidence that he was indeed the murderer.
Incredibly, his defence during his trial in 1989 was that a person unknown must have got into his flat, stolen his clothes, dressed in them, attacked and murdered the victim without his knowledge, then used his car to dispose of her body and left his clothes where they would be found to incriminate him.
This guy shouldn't be released. He should be shot.
Personally think there should be an island somewhere, not exotic, they get dumped there with all the terrorists and sex offenders.
Somewhere cold, far from civilisation, is there any sort of island in Swansea bay?
Maybe, maybe not (I am no expert in law) I'm talking where the jury is 12-0 and where there is overwhelming evidence that there is no doubt of the defendant's guilt.
Of course there's an added complication, there are deals that are done for lesser sentences when the defendant cooperates.
It would not be a seamless process to our system.
Edit: our system is flawed IMHO anyway. This GO given 3 life sentences for example.
He should never be let out... but he will be.
