Embrace the New Order, mate [or else!]. We can hold hands in the queue for bread and soup - that our generous government will provide free of charge - while we sing patriotic songs. Socialists will rejoice at the greater equality. Okay, we'll be equally skint but it still counts.
Nanny will also ensure we can be tracked at all times to enhance our safety and security - because it cares for our welfare so much.
Orwell bless him ,certainly believed in policing lol
""Orwell*self-identified*as a democratic socialist, but his sympathy didn’t extend to communists. In 1949, he compiled a*list*of artists he suspected of having communist leanings and passed it along to his friend, Celia Paget, who worked for the UK’s Information Research Department. After the war ended, the branch was tasked with distributing anti-communist propaganda throughout Europe. Orwell's list included Charlie Chaplin and a few dozen other actors, writers, academics, and politicians.*""
In west Wales, police turning back camper vans from whence they came - if that's Orwellian, tough, bring it on! Hopefully the message will get through and deter others from trying it.
Sometimes the board is like conspiracy theorist central.
In the US we have no lockdown and the virus is spreading like an unchecked wildfire. A tsunami of deaths are about to hit us.
I'm prepared to curtail my personal liberty for a few months to save lives, new world order/secret cabal of evil billionaires or no.
Some amount of unhinged morons on this thread.
It's a vicious circle. Too many people don't take it seriously, so actions have to be ramped up to make more comply, which makes them even more suspicious.
There's more than enough on this board, let alone this thread, who are convinced they know best. They are the reason it's had to get to this stage, because they refuse to listen and refuse to do what is clearly very sensible.
If we all act as if we have the virus for a short while it will be better in the long run than if we don't. As I said in another thread, Singapore introduced tough measures early on and now their measures are far lighter than the UK.
Orwell was nearly killed by the communists when fighting in the Spanish Civil War. The leftist political party with whose militia he served (the POUM, the Workers' Party of Marxist Unification, an anti-Stalinist communist party) was declared an illegal organisation by the communists, and Orwell was consequently forced to flee Spain. Orwell did not know that two months before he arrived in Spain, the [Soviet law enforcement agency] NKVD's resident in Spain, Aleksandr Orlov, had assured NKVD Headquarters, 'the Trotskyist organisation POUM can easily be liquidated'—by those Communists, whom Orwell took to be allies in the fight against Franco.
Thus he became aware of how powerful and vile the Russian Communists were, and had an intense dislike for them for them the rest of his life. I don't blame him at all for dobbing in misguided fools who thought communism was the way forward. Remember that Stalin killed far more of his own people than Hitler ever did in the WW II
Orwell would raise a concerned eyebrow at one particular law on the books waiting for the right crisis to come along, it's the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 whose emergency powers would lift the totalitarian heart of dear old Joe Stalin himself from beyond the grave.

These measures are necessary because far too many people are too stupid to follow sensible precautions. Unfortunately the many idiotic people out celebrating last weekend have ruined it for the rest of us and I for one am fully behind the restrictions that have been imposed. It's got absolutely nothing about a Police State.
