I hate american sitcoms

Like alternative stuff like the much missed bill hicks

But american half hour comedy leaves me cold

I think that's a generalisation, they put out plenty of shit like Friends and big bang theory. But stuff like Seinfeld and Curb your enthusiasm is as good as anything I've watched.
