Mid 70s had a little disagreement with another kid in class.
Two 9 year olds scrapping over the desks.
The teacher broke us up and told the other kid to put his hand out.
6 of the best followed with a wooden ruler.
He turned to me and said hand out for my six.
On the fifth one the ruler snapped and i thought I was getting away with it.
Boy was I wrong
He went and got another ruler and finished off the sixth so I went and sat down.
He asked me why had I sat down as he hadn't punished me for breaking the ruler.
So I was given another six for damaging school property 😆
Different times.
I know. That's half of the problem.
My dad's dad used to reguarly beat him with his belt. My dad thought that was horrendous but would think nothing of giving me and my sister an almighty slapping. I have once slapped my son, who is now 8, when I lost it with him. I felt awful about it.
As a kid I used to hate getting the cane of miss, now I'm an adult I love it
It's crazy when you think about what went on years ago.
Of my 2 games teachers, one represented Wales in the Commonwealth Games and the other played rugby to a decent level. They often dished out the cane or the dap to anyone messing about.
My sons games teacher is also a rugby ref. If he dished out punishment as my teachers did when I was in school there's no way he'd be in either of his jobs today.
A certain Ms W (aka "Gillette" due to her seven o'clock shadow), who was as a physics teacher in Cantonian (boys) school, used gently walk around the class and suddenly deliver a punch between the shoulder blades to unsuspecting victims that had met her disapproval. And she was a hefty woman.
