Remember when it was all about "the loony left"? Well, while no one was looking, the loony right has taken over. There are plenty of sensible, "normal" people who were genuinely alarmed at the prospect of a Corbyn Government in 2019 and that contributed greatly to the size of Johnson's majority. However, these people thought nothing of voting for a party which had spent nine years in Government behaving like a spoilt child as it put its needs way before the needs of the country.
Remember when John Redwood (the original swivel eyed loon who it was rumoured would get a place in the Truss Cabinet, but it seems even she isn't barmy enough to do that) stood for the leadership and there were photos of him with his backers who were dismissed as mad at the time? Well. those MPs lined up behind Redwood who were figures of fun at the time, were, in fact, visionaries ahead of their time because twenty seven years ago, they were offering a preview of what the Conservative party would become in 2022.
I wonder what those sensible types I mentioned earlier who voted to keep Corbyn out in 2019 thought of the likes of Redwood, Bill Cash, bernard Jenkin and Iain Duncan Smith back in 1995, but they back them without a second thought these days.
