Now if she had won it that would be totally different, she was the best tennis player in the World for what seems like a lifetime and is famous. (lifetime award type as she's not British)
It doesn't matter that she couldn't beat the men she was dominant almost unbeatable, in a sport that women have been playing at a high standard for decades.
My post was not anti-women, it was just this award was daft, as she plays a team sport and is not famous or outstanding enough to have won it IMO.
In reality I care little about such awards, but to me she seemed as good as any of the other nominees and her influence on young girls to take up and play football is significant.
I really can't understand why people are so angry about it, it's very odd behaviour.
Whatever your thoughts are on the winner, it was a case of a public vote to engage the public in respect of a TV programme.
It's like being annoyed as to who won the X Factor.
What so if Peter Ridsdale's wife, said he did a brilliant job and saved the club, and did the early tickets to benefit us, you would say brilliant thanks for that what a great guy that Peter is
Or would you have a distrusting mind, because she's not impartial?
She not saying what a great job her husband did, I don’t think he’s mentioned is he? What she is saying is that a bunch of sad, mainly old, men appear to have a problem with a woman footballer being elected as Sports Personality of the Year and they struggle to explain why that should be when asked to do so.
You understand the concept of impartiality Bob, don't pretend to be stupid!
She's deflecting the main point that the BBC Sports Personality of the Year (who her husband works for) has lost the plot and viewers and will go the same way as their top sports quiz, not watched and then scrapped at some point.
And there was me thinking that the result was decided by a public vote, not a BBC director who specialises in “distribution and business development”.
Just what is your point? Are you saying that the BBC fiddled the vote, those who voted for Mary Earps are idiots or there’s no way a woman footballer should win such an award?
