It worked well a presenter needn't be a top-ex player.

Are they examples of Glottal Stops or do they only occur in the middle of words, such mo'or or bu'er instead of motor and butter ? As a licence payer I expect a higher vocal standard from my presenters !

Sky did a preview the other week where the geezer said ‘ever’on. I was disgusted.

Seems like this type of vocal misuse is something that TV heads promote nowadays. Symptomatic of a drop in public standards in general.

Years ago she'd have been taught to say 'The water in Majorca doesn't taste quite like it ought to'.

She is barely adequate as a presenter and quite how people with poor diction get presenting jobs is beyond me.

I can’t believe that she is the best presenter available if Lineker isn’t around.

I used to have an American girlfriend and I used to tease her as to why she (and many, if not most, of Americans) pronounced double 't' in the middle of words as a double 'd'.

    Just me then

The presenter just has to say "What did you think of that" so set it up for the ex-profesionals it's the least important job.

I'd much rather that than have her commentating or being the expert talking through the tactics.

We're in the "woke" era now.
    She's a woman, and she's non-white.
That's all the qualifications needed nowadays.

Jermaine Jenas is Lineker's long term replacement on MOTD, but I guess he's busy doing the One Show to worry about Football Focus.
Alex Scott is the modern day Ray Stubbs - will fill in here there and everywhere when needed.

That is a good point actually.

Nevertheless, is she the best person to even do the presenting job? That Manish chap was good, and so was Dan Walker, and Gabby Logan and David what’s-his name on Sky is as well. There are loads of them - they just keep the conversation going in an articulate manner and fade into the background as it isn’t about them.

But good clear diction should be the minimum requirement for any presenter.

Glotal stops. On the Olympics a girl from Kent worked for me, lovely girl totally incapable of pronouncing words with T. for example she couldn't say I'm going to the O2, she'd say "I'm goin O2" similarly she never went to the West end she'd go "Up west, ( know there T there she couldn't say "to the west end" and if you heard her say 'Up west' it would make you smile.
I have found in my travel though that it seems to be a london/SE thing."

Rehanne Skinner (WHU Women's Manager) was very good on Sky.

I blame Neighbours and Home & Away.

They brought in that annoying habit of raising the pitch of your voice at the end of your sentence to turn it into a question?
