The stat is incorrect for starters. 59 points this season and 41 points last season is an increase of 43.9%. The increase is 18 points.

In 2017/18 we won 62 points and won promotion the following season with 90 points. The percentage increase was 45% but the actual increase was 28 points. Percentage-wise virtually the same as this season but a far greater points increase.

One flaw with using percentages in something like this is that, the lower the number of points from the season before, the smaller the actual increase in points for the same percentage.

Suppose we'd won 5 points last season. A 43.9% increase would see us win 7 points this season. 85 points last season would result in an increase to 122 points at 43.9%.

Does a 43.9% increase in points from last season sound better than an actual increase of 18 points? I don't know. I'd just use actual points instead of percentages.
imagine trying to digest that after a night out
