Critically there have been times in the past when our climate has deteriorated and there have been really huge impacts on our society."

A striking example is the data gathered from the mid 1200s to early 1300s, with the oak rings reporting a prolonged period of above-average summer rainfall for many decades.

It coincides with a time of great famines, including what is known as the Dantean anomaly, when years of cool, wet summers resulted in crop failures - and the reported deaths of 20% of the population of Europe.
Of course, it was a "natural climate anomaly" back then. Couldn't possibly be natuarl these days, could it?
I know our CO2 emissions aren't helping, but a volcano or two puts our efforts in the shade.

You clearly haven't understood the evidence.

Here is some evidence which makes interesting reading.
Globally, the UK is not even in the top 15 of carbon emissions and in fact is measured at 1.1%.
Compared to the international table, tighter laws in the UK would not make any difference to GLOBAL climate change.
50% of the emissions are down to 3 countries.

Maybe we could be charged a negative tax so that we get all of our energy cheaper as a reward, and as an incentive for the biggest polluters to follow our example?

It wont be enough for them , this movement in my view is about attacking capitalism , climate is just a front and emotional mechanism .

Strangely they will need capitalist generated money and solution , along with bigger tax on product , more sophisticated packaging and products , such as electric cars , all of which will badly effect the lower paid and their current manufacturing jobs.

I suggest the rebellion take their army off to China , Russia and India ( SEE HOW WELL THAT GOES ) rather than take on a tolerate country trying to do the right thing , yes we are slow , however there is a reason for that , it will cost trillions to deploy in the timescales demanded by these warriors ,and those trillions are not growing on a tree ??

My fear is that extinction rebellion will push this issue so fast that everyone will have to admit that China, India and African countries will be unable to carry out the required changes unless the west start contributing money.
