Weather report now saying sky/sun colour is due to smoke from forest fires in Portugal affecting the light rays high in the atmosphere.

The paper I read said it was due to the sand from the Sahara. I wonder which one is correct.

I seem to have had sandy deposits dropped on my car overnight - and I once remember something similar in South Wales when I was a kid and red sand was deposited in the rain.
