Paterson is one of the most intelligent football players we have in the team. If you watch him in matches he's continually making life difficult for the defenders and knows where he needs to be to take advantage of a situation.

This is a skill that can't be taught, and allying that to power, strength, speed and bloody-mindedness means he is probably of most value to us in attack, where his lack of a real finesse with his ball skills is not as important as his determination to get anything he can on a ball.
