    The only winners in that situation are the other oil producing nations who get a much higher price for their oil all of a sudden.
    Most of the Iranian people are against their own government, so this could be the tipping point that is required to remedy that situation.

    Did you miss all the mass protests and the subsequent crackdown on dissent? We are talking about an authoritarian regime here. It may be your kind of thing, but the people of Iran are not so keen.

    There is also a lot of stuff going on geopolitically, for example the trade dispute between China and the US, so with the Strait of Hormuz closed it puts China at a disadvatage since the US is now energy independent. Coincidentally, both countries will meet at the G20 next week with a trade deal on the agenda, so the current situation in the Gulf very much favours the US.
