TVs on the wall can be ok but when they're hanging above a fireplace instead of a mirror or nice picture, then thats particularly common.

Wall-mounted TVs should always go above the fireplace, because all seating should be arranged facing the fireplace... and you normally want your sofas/chairs to face in the general direction of the TV screen (to aid in viewing the thing).
