The hearing was held in a legal setting. They lied, got caught and are now facing the consequences. The Democrats were too clever by half on this one and it backfired terribly. Perjury is a serious offence.

So NBC could have cleared Kavanaugh over the pathetic Avenatti hit job allegations, but decided to keep quiet and let the hysteria get way out of control. This could have made a fundamental difference to the public perception of Kavanaugh, but they let it ride.
