Does anyone have this on thier car?

Just bought a used 60 plate car, value is around £17k and just assumed I should get GAP insurance but some people are telling me otherwise. The dealer tried selling it to me but wanted £500 for 3 years, looking online I can get it from ALA (who everyone seem to reccomend) at £114 for 3 years so seems worth it to me.

But is it needed on a used car or is it only really for brand new cars on finance?

There was someone on here the other day that got caught out on a new (second hand) car that was involved in a crash, he was left £1k out of pocket. So it can be advisable on any car purchase.

Check the value on http://www.webuyanycar.com/ They will give you a low price that should be clsoe to what the insurrers will value it at.

Its all depends on your attitude to risk, risk adverse then go for it. If you are happy to take the risk of having a crash and losing out if its a write-off then dont go for it.

And shop around you might be able to get gap insruance for cheaper elsewhere.

Thanks for the reply! I've done a little more research and discover the type of cover I need is RTI or Return to Invoice, in which case they would pay out the difference of what the insurers value it at and what I originally paid, so 3 years for £114 cover seems a no brainer to me!

Just bought a 2nd hand qashqai... car shop tried to sell me GAP insurance which was massively overpriced.

What they were going to charge me £6 a month for over 3 years i managed to get for £1 a month online!

Yeah I bought mine from BMW Sytner who wanted £550 for 3 years. Went to the same company online and got a quote of £114 for 3 years!
