View Full Version : Rod McKuen has died at age 81
Probably not known to many younger people now but back in the Seventies he was a regular on British television. He was a poet who appeared with Ginsberg and Kerouac in his early days but went on to write and make popular some songs which have become standards such as Seasons in the Sun, Love's Been Good To Me and If You Go Away. Like Dylan he had a voice which can only be described as idiosyncratic but it was perfect for his songs. My favourite is this one written in 1969 as the theme for one of my all time favourite films, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie starring Maggie Smith.

We had joy, we had fun,
we had Swansea on the run,
but the joy didn't last 'cos the bastards ran too fast.
