Most of us get jobs and go through a probation period at the end of which employers allow us a permanent contract or a fixed term contract depending on the job.
I work as a manager and every job I have had has been the same.
I have to show that, within the six month period I can show my new employer that I can deliver on what I promised at interview. They don't expect me to change the world or make the organisation better for ever but they do expect that at the end of the period I can show that 'something' has happened to show I am the man for the job.
Slade can point to the 'awful squad' he inherited - his words not mine.
He can point to the unusually large squad and the fitness levels and say "give me time" but even then, he should be showing signs that he is on a upward curve after six months.
He is not, and we are not. We are arguably worse and he has cleared out a host of decent players only to replace them with football league journeymen. This works for some managers (see Eddie Howe) because they play a system that relies on movement, synergy and a team spirit. Bournemouth play good football and everyone buys into it, they enjoy it and it shows.
Slade has taken our football backwards, demotivated the squad who were told they were on the way out and unfit on day one. Despite this accusation of poor fitness levels, it is only under Slade we have seen the team fold in the second half -even against 10 men.
If this was the real world and I was the Chairman I would be asking Slade three questions.
Has our win ratio improved?
Has the team spirit improved thus our getting more for our money from our employees?
Have you created an environment where you can point to future success?
No, no, no.
Only football repays incompetence like this. Slade will be on the best part of £500k per annum yet he doesn't have to get results?
The only way to avoid a relegation dogfight (anyone who thinks we can go on a three game winning spell is deluded) is to actually get rid of Slade and try someone else. Is it a gamble? No, because we are spiralling downwards right now and Slade shows no signs of dropping the personnel who have been the worst performers this season. Worse still he cannot, because he has cleared too many players out and won't trust youngsters unless he has to so development squad promotion is not a possibility.
As I have said, bring in the development coach who is highly respected throughout the whole club, known to the players and apparently well-liked. He wants to play football and so do the players so there you have two wins immediately, a respected individual who will let the players play the game.
He has a better chance of keeping us up than Slade because at the very least the team will play for him. Let him go to the end of the season and see how he goes.
Would it be a disastrous decision? No, because I really believe we are now on an uncontrolled dive under Slade.
Anyone who points to the fact that yesterday we weren't awful is clutching at imaginary straws.
Probation is over Russell, get the fack out of our club.
