View Full Version : What do you do with your dogs when you go on holiday?

This summer will be my first with our dog, I will be taking him on day trips and days out but if I want to take the family abroad, what's the best idea?

I did want to take him to America for 3 weeks but I don't think he'll like the flight experience.

Never again. Some dogs take it quite badly http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/sad.gif

Kennels is fine if it's a good kennels.

A dog should be absolutely fine with other dogs in kennels, if not then it's not been raised properly.

I tell mine i've just popped out for a newspaper.

Luckily he's got no concept of time so he just sits by the back door for 3 weeks.

I tell mine i've just popped out for a newspaper. An alternative method is to fiddle with the clocks so they go 21 times slower for the 3 weeks.

Go to Europe on a driving holiday.

Before you go get your dog a Pet Passport.

Then your dog can go with you and have lots of fun too
as most foreign hotels , campsites , restaurants and bars
are dog friendly !

Been doing it for years , works for all the family.

I have mine put down. Then get a new one when I get back. It saves on Kennel costs and helps clear the ocvercrowding in the kennels.

It's win win. http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/Dsmile.gif

Thanks for all the replies.

Has anybody taken their dog on a flight? Would love to do it but not sure of the conditions they fly in?

I have a live-in Guard who looks after the house and compound and a dog walker who comes around 4 times a week.

Why don't you look for someone who actually takes the dog into their home as if the dog was their own. We took our dog to the Lake District on holiday day but when we went to a wedding he stayed with a lady in her house and it didn't seem to bother him. The only thing he didn't like was he had to sleep downstairs, with us he sleeps in our bedroom

Spot on Penguin,no bad dogs just bad owners, like kids really.Yes in most cases a decent up bringing will make the dog behave, to suggest that's the only thing involved as The Penguin has suggested is about as naive as it gets.

I have mine put down. Then get a new one when I get back. It saves on Kennel costs and helps clear the ocvercrowding in the kennels. We have a winner. You could slightly improve your practice by not getting another dog. http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/thumbup.gif

I did want to take him to America for 3 weeks but I don't think he'll like the flight experience. Well I can stay in a big 5 bed house with 2 acres of garden for up to six weeks so if I could take him it'd be perfect. Otherwise I just go for 2-3 and leave him with family/friends.

Charmer, you call me an idiot but don't back it up, so let me cite some 'reasons' a dog might not like kennels, and support my 'idiotic' claim at the same time. You just did.
