When Solskjaer was "sacked", it was due to a "difference in philosophy". At the time, most people thought this meant a head coach coming in. This obviously hasn't happened.
Could it be that the difference in philosophy was that Tan had decided against spending more and more on the club back as far as last September? Solskjaer seemed to have an open cheque book and, if Malky was supposedly reckless with his spending, then Solskjaer made Mackay look like a frugal, old penny pincher! If Ole was told he wasn't getting any more money to spend, would that have given him the nudge to leave by mutual consent? He had his own plans and was nowhere near completing them.
I wonder if Tan got advice from Glenn Roeder in trying to create a team that builds over a period of time for little money rather than spend a wad in getting back to the Premier League. Slade, despite his lack of experience at this level, would fit that bill given his record of having an eye for a player, again albeit in the lower divisions. Being made to realise the club needs income and a togetherness from fans, we've rightly got our blue shirts back. Maybe Tan realises the club needs a plan.
Virtually all of Ole's signings have gone and few of them played under Slade. Maybe performance bonuses were a part of the reason for this.
Rather than all this club austerity being a sign that Tan is set to offload the club, it's a part of a longer term plan? Like a recession, we're hitting a bad patch before a recovery? The question is how long the bad patch continues.
