I was shocked when I read this last night..

http://akashictimes.co.uk/brits-with-unpaid-bills-to-be-bann ed-from-going-on-holiday/ (http://akashictimes.co.uk/brits-with-unpaid-bills-to-be-banned-from-going-on-holiday/)

(BBC Scotland link too (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-28056950))

I know many will say people should not go on holiday if they are in debt blah blah blah but there are other reasons why people leave the UK not just holidays.

"Its remit could also be extended to other debts."

This could also cover credit card debts, mobile phone bills or any other debt that they decide, I don't know about you but I find that pretty worrying.

My parents live abroad, if they were to have a medical emergency of some kind and I needed to go over there I could be stopped from going and be arrested over an outstanding tv licence? Complete madness, who the hell do these people think they are?

Freedom is becoming a rarity these days and we are in danger of losing it all together, especially when you read stories like these...

Hopefully it'll work both ways i.e people should be banned from entering UK if they haven't paid their debts.

That way we'll never see Tan's face again.

Credit card companies want you abroad as much as possible for that 3% commission they earn (as long as you actually pay up, that is)

Outstanding fines and warrants are not bills.
TV license fees and council tax bills http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/Dsmile.gif This is a disgusting misuse of legislation that is meant to target dangerous criminals.

Unless it is for something that is legally enforceable, such as a fine or a writ, I would like to see someone challenge the legality of what they are doing/planning to do.

It's a sad world. There are a lot of people who through no fault of their own have been declared bankrupt had IVA's and CCJS'

They look for work and are refused so many jobs because of this.

Yet convicted criminals make a lot of money after their release(Jeffrey archer, celebrity football hooligans)

Sad worl.
