So WE the cardiff council tax payers - lend Glamorgan cricket club 4.4 million to build a stadium that hardly anyone goes to apart from a couple of 20/20 drunk attended cricket matches and the odd test match here and there. They knew full well they could never re pay the loan. How about I tell the council I wont pay the 5% council tax increase - and maybe they write it off as well.Inept Labour Council strikes again - what a fecking joke

It was actually the Liberal led Cardiff Council that loaned the money to Glamorgan back in 2006.

The Tories also backed writing off the £4.4m, so I think that makes just about every party in local government inept!

Ah yes good old Rodney Berman Lib Dem leader - now thankfully nowhere near council politics.

I'm not surprised the Tories voted for it as well - as the ex chairman Paul Russell of Glamorgan was well connected at every level with every party and had them all.

I would have presumed though that the Leader of council Phil Bale would be the main political driving force that had the ultimate influencing power on a yeah or neah

If they had written it off it is likely that the cricket club would have gone in to administration. If that had happened they wouldn't have got any money back and the club would probably cease to exist. At least this way the club can continue and the council may get the other £2m back.

You could argue that the tests especially the Ashes have generated revenues for the city , if it helps the club survive I for one think its a nice gesture , I am sure they waste even more money within their own structures .

It doesn't sit comfortably with me either but it's quite straightforward really for those 2 simple economic reasons- plus the added sporting positives.

Why didnt they restructure the debt ?
Lower the repayments over a longer term - like everyone else does who has troubled paying their debts.

This is the same council who is having to make people redundant because they've overspent their budget right?

Lol , the ashes bid was paid for by the wag at a cost of 1.3 million , KPMG , the chairman's ex employers stated that the ashes would bring 10000 jobs and 1 mil in revenue , it didn't.

They forgot that people coming come in for the day and then go home again http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/hehe.gif , they forgot that any jobs were temporary and they forgot that other test grounds could also bid and win test match bids, the club is just as ****ed as the city, it's just that we've bailed them out rather just simply re structured the debt
