Every search returns a multitude of entries pertaining to companies trying to sell you something.

The internet has been ruined, and we are barely 20 years into it's existence.

The only people with the money to do what Google like are the companies who earn money. It's a vicious circle.

Although if you think Google is bad, try Yahoo.

The search results on the first few pages are of little relevance. And there is a shopping tab if I want to buy something http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/shrug.gif

Try using Bing or Duck Duck Go.I've stuck with Google as I have used them from the very first day they started, when Yahoo was the big kid on the block. I admired their ethos but now they are a shadow of their former selves, on a par with Microsoft and Apple in the predator company stakes.

On (of the many) issues that may have led us to a potential online quagmire is that people want - and have come to expect - 'something for nothing', or at next to no immediate , nor on-going cost.Google is the 'ministry of information'.. the internet is getting censored and judgement on what is 'truth' or in the interest of big business is being bumped to the top of major search engine results.. I use stumbleupon, the search results are recommended by a big community. Does anyone know the name of the search engine that only searches forums?

So companies - like Google - find ever more ways to get money out of us without subscription, nor obvious charge. You can search blogs and forums on here but it's run by google http://deeperweb.com/

We are 'getting the 'net we deserve' ?Unfortunately not, but i'll give them a spin http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/thumbup.gif I've tried searching google for it, got to result page 20 of dross and couldn't find owt.. any engine that cuts out the commercial crap is a better alternative, but I fear they will all become propaganda and marketing streams, its happening. Maybe the dark web, for many of its ills is the way forward

I accept that, but Google are now blatantly going overboard regarding profit seeking. The search results on the first few pages are of little relevance. And there is a shopping tab if I want to buy something http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/shrug.gif It's not run by Google.

1984 is around the corner, just a little late. There is more to it than that I think. When you search on deeperwep it uses the normal google search engine to perform a search then throws away the adverts and creates a tag cloud from the remaining results. You can then use the tag cloud to narrow the search results

Cheers, will do http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/thumbup.gif But do you really care? They have never charged me a penny for the many services of theirs I use. It has to be paid for somehow.
