You'll regret it if you don't see the Anne Frank house even though it's not the most "laddish" of things to do.

the options are endless, one of the best cities in the world, head for the red light area if you are travelling by train, you will land at schipol then short journey to amsterdam, get a bed and breakfast 20 euros a night and fill your boots.

if its a lads do just stay in the centre, loads of bars, red light area, sex museum etc, all in walking distance.

if its a cultural visit, get on a train, visit arnhem cemetary museum etc, eindhoven, rotterdam.

Your trip will take care of itself! The joy of Amsterdam is not knowing. When I stepped out of the station Amsterdam literally just opens up in front you. The city centre is easy to get around and you can do it all on foot. Great time of year to go as the squares will be buzzing with people. Enjoy :)

The normal, walk down the red-light canal, quite a sight, mind you wallets though as its not just the hookers after your money. Go for a smoke, and see the sights.

Avoid the weed museum, its tiny and crap. Plenty of other things to go see. There is a Bluebirds bar there.

I hired a peddlo, got a crate of beer and proceeded to see the sights from the water. Great fun

Might even get to see a gay next to the homomonument.

If you like your craft beers head to De Bekeerde Suster on Nieuwmarkt. They brew their own beers. It's an oasis just on the outskirts of the toilet that is the red light district.

Don't drink on Dam square and avoid the Bulldog and Grasshopper coffeeshops.
