I stayed up to watch their Quarter Final last night and for the first time in my life I found myself supporting an England international football team. Guts and commitment from every player masterminded by a man who looked like a real football manager and a Cardiff boy at that. Took on the Canadians in their own den and put them out. Great performance.

I've watched a bit of it and thought it's been more enjoyable than previous occasions I've seen it. Ultimately though pike any woman sport it's just a substandard version of the real thing. Women's sports won't be able to stand alone because of this, it's not their fault it's just they don't have same physical capabilities of men.

Watched a few games. It reminds me of school yard football with the occasional flash of skill or brilliance.

As for the Cardiff lad, good to see him doing well but he uncomfortably reminds me of Brendan Rodgers in the way he interviews and speaks.

Our own Mark Kendall is their goalkeeping coach as well. http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/thumbup.gif

The interview with the Canadian manager at the end was brilliant.
The emotion, disappointment and anger he showed (not to mention the bleeped out words) was there in huge amounts.
What a refreshing change to the bland PR that we see normally.
Well worth catching on the BBC sports page.

I've really got into this. Never watched women's football before. Started off looking at bits and pieces of the group games as a curio (and the wife was in Montreal at the time so for some reason that piqued my interest). Come the knock out stages, I went from mainly commenting on the quality and soon stopped comparing it to men's football to actually get pretty hooked and enjoy it. Just wish it wasn't on so late now, it's a bugger for work.

The English girls have really grown throughout the tournament. Sprinkle on some tactical magic from Sampson, combined with hard work and you end up knocking out opponents that are technically more gifted than you.
Some people on this board keep banging on about 'a substandard version of the men's game'. I know who I'd rather watch if it came down to a choice between England's men and England's women.

I've also been saying from the start that the German's will win it, but surprisingly they haven't quite been on top form have they. The French had them on the ropes the other day, and basically gifted the German's a way back into the game by missing that gaping open goal opportunity.

You're probably right. The key moment of the whole tournament will prove to be that highly dubious late penalty they got, five minutes before being deservedly beaten by a tactically astute France mind.

When the Olympics were here, I made a point of going to see a couple of the Team GB womens games.

I enjoyed them, and I admire the skill and professionalism of the womens game. Indeed, their attitude and sports(wo)manship was far above the mens game. It was refreshing to see footballers who didn't behave like babies when they were tackled.

The women players got up and carried on - the men could learn a lot.

All that said, the womans game will never reach anything like the heights of the mens game. It is different if your side is doing well, but as a sport it is notably slower, less powerful and less dynamic, without offering anything notably different in terms of game play.

Notice the womens team qualify for the Olympics next year after reaching the semi finals.

Hope the women are able to enter a Team GB team in Rio because after the WWC it is pretty much the next big tournament in the womens game. Understand why there would be no mens team at all but hopefully the women can still enter with Mark Sampson coaching them.

Have you noticed that there seems to be so much more space on the pitch in the women's games?
