View Full Version : Our poor train drivers and conductors

Good luck in your strike action, crippling not only businesses in London but also taking money from businesses in Cardiff who might have benefitted from the cricket only to see reduced crowds as people can't travel.

Some drivers are on as little as £40k per annum for the highly technical job of sitting in a semi-automatic cabin looking at a railway track, these people deserve our support.

So what if they blackmail the governments, cream money off the top of major events like the Olympics, let's all rally behind these people who struggle to make ends meet in these austere times. We talk about food banks but not enough is heard from these downtrodden craftsmen and women.

For doing a job that pretty much most people on this forum with arms could do, I salute you all.

All for one comrades.

I work nights and whatever job you do whilst working nights it totally turns your work, family life balance upside down.

Not strictly correct. The union itself seems to be overtly behind the 'night tube' stating that it believes the great capital of London deserves it ( oh please ).Its as much to do with the absolute farce of a proposed work roster that will see drivers work 16 out of 17 weekends. Surely somebody from management with even half a brain can work out a better working system than that!!

From what I can tell it appears because the staff aren't happy about new trains? The two sites do appear to contradict each other with the Buffet cart comment.

Why are the unions bothered if the trains have a buffet cart? Surely it's the customers who drive what services are required?

WTF?So, errmm, don't take the job in the first place, genius. Imagine someone taking a job in Mc Donalds and then going on strike because they are being told to flip burgers. You know what the pay is before you take it and you know what the terms are. And you know if you will be days or nights. If you don't like it don't take it. Ofherwise you swallow the spunk shut up and do your job like an adult.

WTF?
Irrespective of ASLEF, trains, deep mining or shelf stacking for a moment , the point is that working nights means that night workers will not see their families , or be able to socialise - in fact many inconveniences / sacrifices that come with doing necessary work or attending to essential services at night.I guess you may know...

WTF?And for those that don't have families? I'd say if you have a family being a train driver probably isn't going to mean you are home like a 9-5 worker is anyway. There are plenty of other industries that work shift patterns yet you don't see them striking ever time we have a new moon

Maybe you wouldn't miss your family, nor they you, and perhaps you never sleep. Perhaps your only consideration is money - I don't know. It seems so.I'd suggest being paid 50 grand a year for driving in one dimension is probably adequate reward for the anti social element.

I'm not sure that this is actually tricking someone, this is more like just telling a believable lie and then just admitting you lied.
It's the same as saying "I just drove to Tremorfa" and then later saying you didn't really, and then scoffing at those gullible enough to believe you.
No one in their right mind is going to believe anyone drove to Tremorfa. The arm pit of the world.Suburbs.
