A typical week in the prisonsThat is absolutely shocking, blame tory wankers and their cutbacks, they don't give a flying one about those on the bottom rung of the ladder.

According to the shadow home secretary, Britain's prison population has been ballooning in the last ten years. My God what is the world coming to? These people are there to be punished, not to enjoy a thrill of a lifetime experience that most of us law abiding citizens can only dream about!

My sympathy is with the prison staff who go to work each day knowing that statistically they are at risk of being a victim of serious assault. How can any government turn a blind eye towards this?

Yep that's madness and should not be jail worthy, are you saying they are the majority ?? The 'whistle blower' in that news report has suggested a good solution. Lower the prison population or give more money. It's hardly rocket science.

Magdelena Luczak, the mother of murdered four-year-old Daniel Pelka has been found dead in her cell today. If I am honest I do not care in the slightest and am not sorry to see her go. That said most criminals deserve to be incarcerated in as safe an environment as possible and my sympathy for them depends entirely on their crime. Prison staff certainly should be safe at work and more prison staff would probably go a long way to achieve that.

It would be a grave error to make the prison system more American; treating people like animals will soon have them acting so. People shouldn't be scared of going to prison. They shouldn't want to end up there and if they do then they should want to get out as early as possible and never return, but how many intelligent actions have you ever made when scared?
