I didnt go last night - but from what I heard
Dikgacoi 6 is a bit harsh , couple of mates who went said he looked very good - maybe because no one has seen him before

Whittingham - 4

Croesy would have given Whittingham 4.I have been told, however, that Malone looked very good last nights as did Ralls and Dikgacoi. I think Ralls and Dikgacoi in the middle with Pilkington and Ameobi out wide would prove to be our strongest midfield unit this coming season if no more new players are bought in.

Firstly, thank you to Bob for stepping in and providing this valuable service and debating point in my absence from the game last night - appreciated.I was teasing, Croesy. To be honest, I also think that it's time that Whitts was moved on.

TBG - Actually, I would have marked Whittingham based on his performance on the pitch last night, as I always have done. If last nights performance was a six then that is excellent news for the player, the manager the club and the fans. http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/thumbup.gif

I didnt go last night - but from what I heard Although he may never look like a natural athlete, he still looks as though he's carrying a bit too much weight and I wonder how he will cope with the pace of the game when we start playing competitive games.

Firstly, thank you to Bob for stepping in and providing this valuable service and debating point in my absence from the game last night - appreciated.Fair and measured appraisal, perhaps a Whitt's in a less constraint role would see a return to form of one of the very best and sought after midfield talents outside of the Premiership.

I didnt go last night - but from what I heard I gave Whittingham and Dikgacoi six for different reasons - I didn't think Whitts did too badly, but I always think a player with his talent is capable of more in terms of creativity than he offered last night. As for Dikgacoi, he looks some way short of full match fitness and still looks to be carrying a few unnecessary pounds - I thought his performance was to a level that would be likely to see him not make the starting eleven against Fulham if Gunnarsson is fully fit.

He looked mobile enough while he was on to be a threat in matches, so I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do once the season starts for real.

I think O'Keefe will prove to be more than useful in midfield-tenacious sort of player that we need and links play well.

I thought he did well, won the ball back a few times and most of the time kept it simple although he did give the ball away a couple of times when he tried to be a bit more ambitious. What about the last 2 years in Whittingham's case. Absolutely dire for most of it. Hopefully it won't be 3 years http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/getmycoat.gif

Funny (in a good way) to read Ralls and Mason reported as our stand-out players - after all this time, and after all the comings and goings and the ups, downs and the drama's.

It's good to read such positive reports.
Dare we start to get optimistic about seeing City playing some exciting football?

Whitts' is an incredibly important player for us this season, but it could be his last with that mantle. If it is his last year here then get behind him properly.

Whitts' is an incredibly important player for us this season, but it could be his last with that mantle. If it is his last year here then get behind him properly. Unfortuneately , unless PW is contributing goals or setting them up from quality set pieces (which he is doing less and less often) , his value to the team is limited. A shame , as he is undoubtedly one of the most talented players the club has had in recent years.

Id prefer to see Ralls in the middle of a 3 man central midfield.

Im pretty certain he will be playing v Fulham on the left of a 4 man midfield.

I didnt attend the game last night, but what struck me last night when looking at the names was the team could be flexible in formation.

It could be set up as a central 3, of Ralls, Whitts, and KD. In theory KD could break up play and the other 2 can distribute. Ralls extra energy should make up for Whitts advancing years.

Pilkington and Ameobi can work as part of a 5 man midfield, or as a 4 man midfield or even as an attacking 3 with Mason.

To the people who were watching was this sort of structure used, or was the team set-up in a more rigid system.

There was a flexibility to the City side which wasn't there last season, but it will be interesting to see what happens when Kenwyne Jones is available, because I would have thought that with him in there, we would be more likely to revert to a more rigid system.

Firstly, thank you to Bob for stepping in and providing this valuable service and debating point in my absence from the game last night - appreciated. As i have pointed out previously, Dikgachoi played barely a game and a bit last season but his stats for tackle completion and passes completed were higher than anyone elses in the squad. He doesnt need to be spectacular, he needs to get it, give it and stop teams playing.

If we have Gunnarson and Whitts in the centre of midfield - I think we are consigned to same midfield being over run time and time again like it was last season.

(still keep hearing noises re Nolan / Barton)

Hope I'm wrong on every level - but Slade will have 10-15 games and if it isnt working - then it never will work for him here.

Hope it's not Barton due to his age more than anything. He'd also be on high wages and I'm not sure we want to rekindle that approach.
