Interesting article. £9 million for starters just for participating. Let's hope the WFA put it to better use than their UEFA counterparts appear to have done.

Pump the money straight into grassroots football and hopefully in the next 10 to 15 years we will have another golden generation who are even better!

Its a bit easier said than done. One of my cousins (a bit younger than me) was no more than an okay player when he was 12 or 13 but had trials for Bolton, Leeds, Barnsley, Sheffield United and Doncaster in the space of 3 years - not even mentioning all the smaller clubs he was also offered trials with e.g. Harrogate, Accrington, Oldham off the top of my head. He didn't have a patch on some of the lads I played with at club and school level, yet the opportunity down here is next to nothing - let's hope that will soon start to change.

Every player playing for Wales at the moment has come from and English FA affiliated academy, So from the ages of 12 the FAW has very little to do with the development of our young players. We have a golden generation, however much of it comes down to luck and systems outside our control to produce these players.

Are you saying Cardiff/Swansea/Wrexham academies are FA affiliated? I didn't know this, but I'd guess so because all are obviously playing in English systems. However as you said, there are too many great young talents just wasting away in the South Wales valleys. I'm sure it's the same in the Swansea valleys and North Wales.very interesting post, It would be good to have a representative from the FAW to act as a liaison with the fans were we can express our views and they can tell us their views and what they are planning.
