In the video of his post match press conference on the club website, Russell Slade was asked about our pitch and, essentially, he said much of what I was told by someone who should know all about these things after our manager's meeting with fans a fortnight ago.

Despite what was said by some on here a few weeks back when the matter was discussed - we DO have a big problem with the pitch this season.

In particular, the match with Belgium well into June meant that all of the usual type of close season work could not be carried out on it last summer and, without understanding all of the technicalities involved, the top surface is not holding together as much as it should.

In fact, Russell Slade suggested that all of the rain we've been having might be helping rather than hindering matters because it means that the moisture is ensuring that the pitch does not disintegrate as quickly as it would do otherwise.

Our manager said there's little that can be done to improve the situation this season and the City employee I spoke to said things might only start to get a little better when the grass starts growing again - although looking at my front lawn at the moment, I'm not sure it's stopped yet this "winter"!

Is it the same problem that Plymouth have with algae on the pitch? http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/xmassherlock.gif

How we loved the days when the pitch had more sand on it than on Barry Island beach. Seriously though the pitch is not that great and is worse than when rugby was played on it. However, it is really not that bad.

2 teams playing on the same patch of grass.

That's the end of that, doesn't matter if it's the felt they use on snooker tables at the crucible or played on the bag of gravel I have in my back garden.

Maybe the positive way to look at the situation is to say that our players will eventually get used to playing on such an awful pitch, by current standards, and will cope with it better than the opposition do. However, I'm really surprised to see a few in this thread still seemingly of the opinion that the pitch is okay despite the fact that club employees are admitting that it is far from that.

I'm guessing you answered your own question with the Belgium game comments. I am surprised the pitch is bad in places nowadays though.

I thought the new fandangled 4G / 30% plastic thingymajig was meant to sort this problem out once and for all http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/xmassherlock.gif

We have just ha a crazy amount of rain , even prepared areas are buggered like city's pitch and most parkland golf courses which are swamps.

The Wales v Belgium game took place on 12 June 2015. If the lateness of that game is the excuse for no major close season pitch maintenance what will happen after 11 June 2016 when Rod Stewart is playing CCS ? A ploughed field for the 2016-17 season ?

The grass is so sparse you can see the old rugby markings from level 4.
