The Mrs is looking at a weekend away in the next couple of weeks. Anyone know what the beaches are like / restaurants?
Gravesend as in the town in Kent on the Thames estuary? I did my merchant navy survival at sea course there about 35 years ago. Unless it has changed a lot I wouldn't recommend it.

Blimey, what is that loud whooshing noise?

Me too!! X Class 1979Ah, Gravesend ... on the weekends there was nothing better I liked doing than lying on the golden sands of nearby Tilbury Dock or soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of Gravesend town centre's cafe quarter http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/hehe.gif

Gravesend boasts major shopping outlets including Tesco, Morrison's and Sainsbury's - and for the discerning shopper a BHS.

Yes it was Cocoa. Tasted okay back then http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/hehe.gif . Remember the nasty guy who did lifeboat traning - Mr McGorran. relf the Firefighting teacjher is still alive and well and regularly posts on various Seafaring pages on FB. He must be in his late 80s/early 90s now. I loved my time in Gravesend Sea School. But back to the OP. The town was crap had nothing going for it at all. Remember fearing the Tilbury Skins were going to come over and ambush us in the town at nights. Can't remember anymore, there were a few in the Merch from Dinas..
