View Full Version : Vincent is coming with a 'significant financial announcement'

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan flies into UK this week ahead of significant financial announcement.

Tan will be at Cardiff's game on Saturday but it is understood a new deal for manager Russell Slade is not on the agenda despite his contract expiring at the end of the season

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan will jet into the UK for a surprise visit this weekend and will watch the Bluebirds in action at Charlton.

But it is understood the future of manager Russell Slade will NOT be on the agenda despite the fact his current contract expires at the end of the season.

Tan's visit, however, is expected to be followed by a significant announcement in the coming weeks when he is likely to convert more of his debt to equity.

The Malaysian billionaire will fly in on Thursday and will be at The Valley to watch his side take on Charlton as Russell Slade's men look to keep in the Championship play-off hunt.

The club though insist the visit merely coincides with a business trip Tan is making to London anyway .

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Slade's future, talks with the manager over a new deal are not thought to be planned, although Tan is expected to meet with Slade during his stay.

In terms of the forthcoming financial announcement, reports suggest Tan is currently owed around £150m in the form of loans he has put into the club since taking charge. He has already converted around £13m of that into equity and more is now set to follow.

It remains unclear the amount Tan will now convert into shares. In the past he had spoken about turning all his input into the club into equity to make the club debt free, but with the amount growing he has since said that would not be feasible at this time.

Tan recently reached agreement to finally settle with the club's biggest and oldest creditor Langston, the Bluebirds agreeing to make a final payment of around £5m to settle the original £24m in loan notes taken out way back in 2003. Langston will be paid more when the club is promoted back to the Premier League.

The Charlton match will be the first time Tan has attended a Bluebirds game in person since he was at Cardiff's 2-2 draw with QPR at Loftus Road back in August.

Before that, his last game in the Welsh capital was against Fulham in January 2015 after his decision to reverse his controversial rebranding of the club.

After taking over the Bluebirds in May 2010, Tan was a familiar sight at Cardiff games. However, since expanding his football empire by buying Bosnian side FK Sarajevo and Belgium outfit KV Kortrijk, as well as investing in the MLS in America with Los Angeles FC, Tan's trips to see his first club have tailed off significantly.

It's hard to put much faith in this story when they cannot even get the last game Vincent Tan attended in Cardiff right - he wasn't at the back to blue match against Fulham last season, he turned up about six weeks later when we played Wolves.

IF there is any truth in this story, then on the back of him reversing the re-brand, any conversion of debt to equity surely has to be seen as another step towards acceptance of the error of his ways. Maybe we ought to cut him a little slack in response.

Here is something that troubles me.

Tan has not been seen for a long time and this is only a rumour that he might be coming here this week. Its clear that for him, changing back to blue would have been a huge loss of face - that is important in the far east, very important.

So if he has lost face, backtracked on the colour, seen us relegated from the Premier League AND appoint a nobody from nowhere as manager, then exactly what is he after?

That does not suggest to me that he wants to convert his substantial debt to equity. Unless ive got this horrible wrong, we are a creditor of Vincent Tan. If he converts the debt to equity we no longer owe him that amount of money.

I cant see him popping up from nowhere to invest in this team when it would be just as easy to sell us off and pick another side out of a hat.

People are dreaming if they think VT is suddenly going to fall back in love with us. This divorce will be messy
