Match facts
Reading's 1-0 win over Cardiff in August ended a run of 12 league matches without a victory over the Bluebirds (D7 L5).
Cardiff have only failed to score in two of their past 31 matches against the Royals in league competition.
Reading's 1-0 victory over Fulham in midweek was just the second occasion this season that Jaap Stam's side have won at home having had less possession than their opponents (also vs Norwich).
The Royals have now won six of their past seven league games on home soil, losing just once.
Peter Whittingham has been directly involved in a higher share of Cardiff's Championship goals this season than any other player (32%).
Neil Warnock's side have picked up just one win in their past six away league games (D2 L3).

Reading manager Jaap Stam told BBC Radio Berkshire:
"The (Madejski Stadium) pitch is not in a good condition. Everyone knows there's been rugby union and youth team games played on it a couple of times in recent weeks.
"These games need to be played in the stadium, but the pitch is in a very bad state to be fair.
"If you want to keep on playing well and keep on getting results, especially in how we want to play keeping possession and going forward, creating chances, it doesn't make it easy."
Cardiff manager Neil Warnock told BBC Radio Wales:
"We are quite capable of getting results everywhere, but the next five games are tough for us.
"Reading have been impressive, you just have to look at the results really and they are entertaining.
"I am looking forward to it. I have had some battles with Reading over the years and I have had some good results there really.
"It is a good stadium, they have a good owner. We would love to be in their situation in one year. That would be the aim."

Reading will have full-back Jordan Obita available after suspension for the Sky Bet Championship match against Cardiff.
Tyler Blackett stood in on the left side of defence for the 1-0 win over Fulham on Tuesday night so could retain his place, while captain Paul McShane is fit following a wrist problem.
Midfielder Roy Beerens will be hoping to make the starting XI again after marking his return to the team with the winning goal against the Cottagers.
Winger Callum Harriott (hamstring), midfielder Stephen Quinn (knee) and striker Deniss Rakels (ankle) remain out.
Cardiff defender Bruno Manga is unavailable after returning from Gabon's African Nations Cup campaign with knee ligament damage.
Manga is due to have a scan on Monday and Cardiff fear the centre-half could miss the rest of the season.
Anthony Pilkington also looks like missing out after being injured against Burton last weekend.
Pilkington sat out the 1-0 midweek defeat at Brighton and Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock is unlikely to risk the Republic of Ireland international after confirming he has only done some light running in training.

My thoughts too. There is literally no creativity in this side in midfield. Another long day at the office coming up I think.
Halford and Ralls are a waste of a shirt IMO (I'd love Ralls to be the playmaker in the side but he just doesn't have it in his locker based on past performances). So at least 2 strong midfield presences required next season if Whitts seems to have finally been deemed not good enough on his passing, deadballs and shooting alone.
Organ Morgan.

That was either a pointed dig at the permanently absent and thrifty Vinny, or Neil wasn't thinking clearly.

I thought that, too :hehe:

I always get the feeling that Warnock gets his message across in his interviews. This is no exception and has almost resigned himself to not getting much from today, kind of giving himself the excuse.
After seeing the teamsheet, those travelling fans had better have an extra couple of beers as it's going to be another long afternoon!
Reading (Danny W0 should have scored then.

Jazz could be in for a tough afternoon. Done up like a kipper and as you say, Williams should have scored
Ralls hit post (deflected)
Ralls cracking effort off the post :-(

We've got absolutely no quality about us going forward. Our passing and movement is dreadful.

28-01-17, 15:24
We hit the post. Ralls
Pilkington injured and no Lambert or Bennett in the bench? Lambert must have got knackered running around for 10 minutes last week, and where is Bennett, is he injured? Declan John on the bench! No sign of Huws or O'Keefe. Looks like Warnock has written of some players and wants to play the younger ones like Healey, Harris and Kennedy over Lambert, No one and Whittingham.
Still 0-0 so there's hope and we sound OK.
Some tasty challenges going in and ref happy to let them go.
Refreshing to see.
City doing okay so far.

Reading were shit when they played us at our ground.
Since Ive started watching this theyve been shit again.
2 1
Kermogant scores fk, given away by Bamba (or was it? minimal contact, if any)
For free kick, Cardiff wall not well set-up - left a big gap on side through which they scored
We are so open now, shame as we looked ok first half
****ing hell kermogant, why didn't you panenka that

Murphy actually looks stronger doesn't he.
Jazz doesn't half give me the Blues
Kermogant a dirty cheating cnut.Diveing every where.

Kermogant is such a cheat, no contact for freekick and the dive at the end was shocking. Need to get Bamba as captain as Morrison doesnt organise anything, that wall was hopeless. Good to see Kennedy, Healey and Harris getting game time but why is Ralls picked instead of Witts?
And McShane should have walked for his elbow on Healey in the first half
Penarth Blues

I agree, but clearly Warnock was hoping McGregor would make us harder to beat by bringing some additional presence to the defence. At the moment McGregor doesn't seem to have the match sharpness needed to be any better than Murphy.
If we are now down to needing 6 wins out of 18 games to be safe then we still can't relax. If we get to be reasonably safe before the end of the season I'd suggest looking to get this position nailed down for next season ASAP by putting Murphy back in to see if he has what is needed for the remainder of the season. I'm actually hoping he doesn't come back in too soon as that would mean McGregor has been truly awful and we'll be back in trouble...

A tad harsh on City in the end. Played well enough second half to earn a draw but we didn’t produce the quality kermogant did to score We need better up front.

Yep agree with this. An unconvincing win for us but we seem to specialise in that this season. We were hanging on a bit and our passing went to pot in the second half.
Cardiff are going to be fine this season though.

Same as Brighton teams at the top have quality in front of goal.

Jeeps we desperately need a striker. Kermorgant doesn't score that many.
Without Gareth McCleary we would be nowhere near the top six.
Two narrow away defeats for Cardiff against two of the top three in the division. Cardiff are well organised under Warnock. Healey looks promising. I think you need a decent keeper.

Spot on we are not far away from being a decent side.Attacking midfield players and we could be up there with you.

I dont like having a go at Mcgregor as he has only just got here.He is in need of game time BUT he is not as good as Murphy and no `better than Amos on present form.I thought the team tried really hard today.we are not far off the top clubs just need to let NW make a few signings in the summer.

We love to write keepers off here.
Radio Wales were ripping into McGregor, but I just thought the 1st was a good goal.
Very harsh to blame him.
Problem is, Marshall was outstanding, and other keepers are being judged by his standards.
2nd goal was too far away for me to see, but if the wall was wrong then yes, keeper may have been at fault, but others could also be to blame for not being tight.
I'd have to see it again.
I've seen enough of McGregor elsewhere to think that once he gets match sharp he'll be an asset to us

If, in the first half, you asked which striker was on his way out until Warnock selfishly dragged him off the bench and which striker had Warnock suggesting the search for a new one isn't as desperate as he first thought then I reckon Healey would be considered the latter.
Ralls seems to be trusted, Gunnarson having a renaissance but we need a little more creativity and pace in the middle (still).
It baffles me why a team who's only real threat is set pieces leave Peter Whittingham on the bench until the last minute
