From the second link: The downing of the Syrian warplane, an Su-22, was confirmed by an official press statement from Operation Inherent Resolve, the US-led international task force against IS, which accused the Syrian government of targeting fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces, a Kurdish-led militia.

“At 6:43pm, a Syrian regime SU-22 dropped bombs near SDF fighters south of Tabqah and, in accordance with rules of engagement and collective self-defense of Coalition partnered forces, was immediately shot down by a US F/A-18E Super Hornet,” the statement read.

That statement omits to say they have no legal authority to be in Syria!

Russia has stated, albeit in couched terms, that if the Yanks or its allies step out of line west of the Euphrates (two-thirds of Syria) then it'll blow out of the sky anything that intrudes.

It's always been kicking off in Syria, way back in the Gulf War people were sugesting whilst on a war footing would it be worthwhile sorting out the Syrian issues.

Not sure if Russia can actualy afford a big war thei economy is very weak.

Don't worry Trump and Putin will sort it all out through their secret back channels. Trump owes Putin big time for instructing Russian intelligence to win the US election for him, and he was also very grateful when Vlad provided the girls for his Golden Showers episode in Moscow.

The Yanks are there but they are but not wanted by the lawful government of Syria. They are there illegally. The Russian's stated the shooting down of the Syrian warplane was an act of aggression. Whilst of course true, it would be more accurately described as an act of war... one of a long series committed by the US in Syria. They are trying to partition the country in order to protect the forces they favour who just happen to be terrorists, rebranded ISIS killers. The same ones they allowed to escape from Mosul and Raqqa to continue the fight against Assad.
