View Full Version : Any hotel recommendations for Amsterdam

Going there in March with Mrs Mower for our 25th Anniversary.

Looked online and the choice had my head spinning.

Anyone recommend something nice. After putting up with me for 25 years she deserves at least somewhere tidy.
Away from the red light district as well 😂

Nowhere too big though, I hate the massive sky scraper hotels.

I was over there earlier this year with a mate of mine and was rather disconcerted with the transparent glass toilet door....

Yep, dont think Amsterdam is somewhere you take the missus.
Why not try Tenby. Much more refined and no see through toilets!

There are many lovely hotels near the red light district. You and your wife can get another woman to visit and it's reasonable for a threesome:thumbup:

Me and the Mrs went there a couple of years ago. Beautiful city and you only see the red light district if you want to go there.
We stayed at a hotel opposite the main train station called the park plaza Victoria

Amsterdam is a great place in the day time, but a ****ing shithole at night. Take her to Paris, or Rome or Madrid or Barcelona. Or even Brussels.

Intell hotel about 5 mins from central station is nice. Small, but everything you need and reasonable. Tip. Get a hop on hop off canal boat ticket. Good way to see all the sights.

we found it on the morning of our 1st full day of a 4 night stay on the counter there were bundles of little maps of where all the coffee shops were in the city
they were there for anyone to pick up it was a port of call every afternoon on our stay and it was the furthest coffee shop away from our hotel too lol now that's commitment lol

I took my wife for our anniversary to the Leidseplein area of Amsterdam

We stayed at https://www.bilderberg.nl/amsterdam/hotel-jan-luyken/

Its very busy area with lots of restaurants, comedy clubs and is a short walk to Van Gogh Museum, canals, etc. (there's also a sports bar there)

It was not at all seedy with lots of outside bars etc lots of tourists. The red light area is easy to find from there if you're so inclined - I was!

However this was 11 years ago

If you've got a bit of money then The American Hotel sounds appropriate for a 25th Anniversary. I've stayed a couple of times and it's a great Art Deco hotel close to the Rijksmuseum. I think it was Hitler's HQ in Holland during the war.

Obviously you'll be doing the Van Gogh museum but the Concert Hall is also world class if you're into Classical music. Also have to try their Ristaffel (sp?) meals.

Enjoy Amsterdam. One of the great cities.

EDIT. Just seen binmans post and it's located in that area.

Often find that the area by a City's station is hanging.

Is that not the case in Amsterdam ?

Was thinking while we were over there, no wonder the Gestapo found Anne Frank's house, there's signs everywhere pointing it out.

Not in this case. Train from the airport into the central, station, then a short walk to the hotel.

The red light district is close enough to walk to, but you’d have to go out of your way to get there iykwim. Down the road a bit is the central square “the dam”, shops etc. We walked pretty much everywhere, but you can catch a tram to places further afield. Make sure you do a canal cruise.
I wanted to see the Van Gogh museum but the wife’s a bit of a phillistine.
I’ve been to most major European cities, but Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful is been to.
If you want to visit Anne franks house, book early. I can also recommend the Heineken brewery tour.
