Pelé scored over 600 goals for Santos at virtually a goal a game and 77 goals for Brazil in just over 90 appearances and was a triple World Cup winner. He will always be the greatest for me.

I'm to young for pele but obviously know he was amazing but was it that hard to score all those goals in Brazil

Fair question but his scoring record at international level was almost as good as club level during a period in the 60’s when defensive football was prevalent.

My favourite ever team. Pelé was still regarded as the king of that team. Let’s not forget he was a teenager and played brilliantly when they won the World Cup in 58 and by some distance the best player at the start of the World Cup in 62.
You could also argue that Ronaldo has played in an incredible Real Madrid team which has helped his scoring record enormously.

No one who played in that team with him says he was the King of the Tean. Jairzinho scored more goals than him in that World Cup and whenever I see any documentaries he gets more plaudits than Pele from his fellow team mates.

Someone sent me this gay transcript. Interesting though, although I think Messi is the best of all time.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi in court:

Judge: Have any of you won the
Golden ball?
Ronaldo: Yes, 5 times.
Messi: Yes, 5 times as well.

Judge: Have any of you won the
Golden Boot?
Ronaldo: Yes, 4 times.
Messi: Same here.

Judge: How many individual trophies have you each won?
Ronaldo: 16.
Messi: 13.

Judge: Have any of you played for
another club’s first team besides your current one?
Ronaldo: Yes! Sporting CP in Portugal first division and Manchester United in BPL.
Messi: No. Only Barcelona.

Judge: Have any of you won a title with your national team?
Ronaldo: Yes! We won Portugal’s first ever European Championship.
Messi: No.

Judge: How many goals have each of you scored for your respective teams?
Ronaldo: Should I count the goals
I’ve scored for Man United and
Sporting?
Judge: No. Only for Real Madrid.
Ronaldo: 436 goals in 426
appearances or 9 seasons.
Messi: 539 goals in 625 appearances
or 14 seasons.

Judge: Who has scored more hat-
tricks in La Liga?
Ronaldo: Me. 35 in La Liga.
Messi: Ronaldo has. I’ve scored 28.

Judge: Which is the most prestigious competition in club football?
Ronaldo: Champions League.
Messi: Champions League.

Judge: Have any of you won
Champions League?
Ronaldo: Yes, 4 times in total with 2 different teams. Once with Man United and 3 times with Madrid.
Messi: Yes, 4 times as well with
Barcelona only.

Judge: Who has scored more goals in the CL between the two of you?
Ronaldo: I’ve scored 118 goals in the CL.
Messi: I’ve scored 100.

Judge: Who has more assists
between the two of you in the CL?
Ronaldo: I have 39.
Messi: Ronaldo has. I have 26.

Judge: Who has scored more goals in total in the CL finals?
Ronaldo: Me.
Messi: Ronaldo.

Judge: Which one of you have scored more free kicks?
Ronaldo: I have.
Messi: Ronaldo has.

Judge: Most goals with weak foot?
Ronaldo: Me, I think.
Messi: (Nods in agreement).

Judge: Most goals from outside of the box?
Ronaldo: Me.. again.
Messi: Ronaldo.

Judge: Who has scored more
headers?
Ronaldo: Is that a serious question?
Messi: ...

Judge: Who has a better penalty
conversion rate?
Ronaldo: I think I do. I’ve scored 82% of the penalties I’ve taken.
Messi: I’ve scored 77% of the
penalties I’ve taken.

Judge: Which one of you have scored the most goals in total during your career?
Ronaldo: I think I have. 647 goals.
Messi: I’ve scored 603

Judge: How many football records do each of you hold in total for both club and country?
Ronaldo: 146
Messi: 110

Judge: Well, after analyzing all of the facts that have been presented to me. I can only draw one conclusion when it comes to comparing you both as football players. That conclusion is that Ronaldo is the better player in almost every category. When it comes to goal scoring and accolades for both club and country, Ronaldo comes out on top. Messi, you are
without a doubt Barcelona’s best
player of all time. But certainly not
the world’s best ever. That is clearly Ronaldo at the moment.

Messi: But I am younger than Ronaldoand haven’t played as many matches as him.

Judge: I understand that, but until
you surpass his goal scoring records and win as many trophies both individually and collectively as he has, then Ronaldo will, according to the statistics, be considered as the best football player of all time. Until then, keep pushing on and you just might be able to achieve just as
much as Ronaldo.

Mário Zagallo on Pelé in 1970. He would sleep in the dressing room prior to matches and the players would say “let him rest he’s our pride and joy”. I dunno where you get your info from JRH. Perhaps some of his team mates were a bit annoyed that Pelé left them out of his top 100 players but Mexico 70 was Pele’s tournament. He was the conductor with loads of assists. He was the King and indeed player of the tournament. It was the tournament that confirmed his brilliance.

So?

You're missing the point and you're ****ing up your own argument.

You see, I countered your nonsense about Portugal v Brazil (this thread is about individual players) by pointing pout that it's not pertinent to this discussion to compare individual players using the achievements of their respective national teams. I illustrated this by applying your logic to two different players: Nobby Styles and Gareth Bale, are you with me?

You then made the statement that Portugal never have and never will win the World Cup. Which is probably true. But irrelevant. Wales never have won anything, but it doesn't mean that an individual Welsh international cannot be better than World Cup winner from another country.

To point out that Wales advanced further than England one time in a tournament doesn't really help or extend your argument. I could counter with the fact that Portugal went further than Brazil in WC2006, but what's the point?

Anyway, George Best.

It's not facts, it's a selected bunch of stats (Some of which are wrong) written by a child.

This football generation cares about one thing and one thing only - stats.

Nobody can be arsed to watch the game for themself anymore.
One of my favourite English footballers was Glenn Hoddle but the stats would tell you that Peter Crouch is better!

Andres Iniesta controls almost every game he plays in but the "stats" would tell you that Miroslav Klose was a better footballer than him.

Stats are only part of the game. I don’t think any football fan including myself, old enough to remember watching Hoddle play would say Crouch was better. Don’t know why you used that comparison anyway. Different positions.

I never understand why every time Messi and Ronaldo do something why one has to be better than the other. It’s weird that people care so much rather than just enjoying 2 of the best players of all time.

I always think the Ronaldo just trains hard and Messi has all the talent does both of them a huge disservice too. Obviously Ronaldo is very talented or someone like James Milner would have been just as good with how hard he works. And obviously messi has to work his bollocks off to stay at the top of his game this long.

I think both players are fantastic, im just having a bit of fun with the Messi fan boys on here.

Even though I think Messi is the more enjoyable to watch, and probably just shades it, i do think this last few years Ronaldo has closed the gap. I think it used to be Messi on another level, then Ronaldo, then the rest.

Now its Messi and Ronaldo on the same level, and then the rest. Wether Neymar can kick on to that level remains to be seen but I think he will need to move away from PSG to acheive it.

I like neymar but can't see him getting anywhere near the two above money seems to be his biggest goal

He never plays or trains around his sister's birthday. Pathetic

Not sure why I used the word gay to be honest. It wasn't meant as homophobic at all. Just a word I'd have used in high school when I was immature. Sorry if I've offended anyone.

Says who? Can’t find anything to confirm who was the official player of the tournament.

Check wiki. He won the golden ball for player of the tournament.

And Best didn't even have to train or try , he was simply a natural genius ,incredible balance , flair beyond the trainng manual , he'd play as well on a perfect pitch or a muddy one ,freak of nature .
An old football coach of mine played with Georgie, and he had a few tales to tell. Now he was still a very decent player when I played with him, but he said Best was something else. It was around that time I thought that maybe professional football wasn't for me

You are missing the point. My coach who is an ex-international was quite good, but he told me that next to Best he wasn't really all that good, and I was aiming to be as good as my coach
