View Full Version : FT: HUDDERSFIELD 0 - 3 CARDIFF CITY: Match thread

Michael Morris
12-02-20, 18:22
Huddersfield striker Karlan Grant is hoping to return to contention. Grant missed the Terriers' first home win of the year against QPR on Saturday due to a knock, but has returned to full training.

Midfielder Alex Pritchard is also back in full training following his long-term knee problem and could return to the squad. Jonas Lossl, back at the club on loan from Everton, is likely to resume in goal as Kamil Grabara recovers from a serious head injury.

3522

Cardiff boss Neil Harris has reported no new injuries following Saturday's win at Luton and is expected to choose from an unchanged squad. Albert Adomah, a Deadline Day loan signing from Nottingham Forest, made his Bluebirds debut at the weekend and should continue.

Fellow recent recruits Brad Smith and Dion Sanderson are hoping to feature for the first time, but may need longer to build up their match fitness. Midfielder Joe Ralls (glute) is still out as Cardiff bid to extend their unbeaten league run to six matches.

Opta stats

Huddersfield have won none of their last 11 league matches against Cardiff City (D4 L7) since a 1-0 win in January 2003.

Three of the last five league meetings between Huddersfield and Cardiff at the John Smith's Stadium have ended goalless.

Huddersfield have scored exactly two goals in their last three league games (W2 L1). They haven't scored 2+ goals in more consecutively since February 2017 (5).

Cardiff have lost just one of their last 10 league games (W3 D6) and are looking to win consecutive away league games for the first time since March 2018.

Cardiff's Lee Tomlin has been directly involved in six goals in his last eight league appearances against Huddersfield (5 goals, 1 assist).

A case of if it's not broken why fix it.

IMO if he changes it and it goes tits up it would be all "why drop our striker who is both confident and hot?"

He has options to change it if needs be.

After that Nelson card, I saw us break forward (great) dropping my wedges as I take my eyes off my food to watch us speed up the pitch. Guessing it was Jazz* as he was in the right going to overlap Adomah, brilliant I think to myself, oh no, no, he checks his run and stays BEHIND and doesn't overlap. Pass sequence then goes backwards and all the way to LB position.

May not have been I didn't clovk who it was.

If Paterson is going to play up top he's going to need to learn to stay further up the pitch when we defend so we can break quicker. It's nice to see attackers chase back and out that effort in, but when your primary role is to attack, we need you to be in a position to attack.

Small thing I've picked up on, easy Riley it go at 2 up but if it was nil nil I'm sure people would notice.

Agree. But is it really needed 3 nil up 5 mins to go?

Scores a good goal, with decent build up play in the cup and isn't even a used sub after that for 2 games.

Not sure, apart from the goal which was an obvious plus, that Paterson plated well today, and then he brings on Ward to run the clock down for 5 mins at 3 goals up. Great that for a player in a position that it is widely accepted that you need to have confidence in, something an ex striker would know.

If we can manage 3 on the bounce against Wigan, it's all good confidence building stuff. We're 10 games unbeaten (as long as you don't count penalties). We've got 12 points from the 6 league games since QPR.

They are, but City's performance was very good after our first goal. Seemed so much in control and the football looked good too.

I'd imagine H'field fans would be, or at least should be pissed off at the number of times they let Tomlin stop with the ball as if he was down the park after school and had full on discussions with everyone around him, and no-one challenged him. The game was pretty much won, but incidents like that may explain why they're stuggling.

It was the Sinnott thing wasn't it? Both played together at Huddersfield, Ward had his sinnott shirt on at the end.

I imagine the players will see it as a manager listening and doing something decent for a player once the game was in the bag.
