We lost 8-3 at Goodison Park. Welsh international Roy Vernon scored a hat trick and future City favourite Brian Harris was also in the Everton team. The City goals were scored by Mel Charles and 2 for Tony Pickrell. It was Tony's last but one game for the City and his final goals as, at the tender age of 19, his promising career was cut short by Tuberculosis. It probably wouldn't happen these days but those were different times. I must have seen him play and whilst I can't really remember him I always remember my Dad saying what a shame it was and seeing his name brings back memories of that.
