i) In a competition for a starting place, and
ii) Having to be ready to make the most of his opportunities when they do come, and
iii) Even less likely to get support from the twitter fans who will want to see other players.

Sancho and others might be fine players but I want to see James win the starting spot in pre-season and make this look like a waste of money.

Playing regularly, gaining confidence. I think he's regressed as a player over the last year.
