This along with the Gunter retirement will please many on here but he is only 29 which is a bit young to rule out responding to your countries call.

That makes four Welsh greats gone in the space of a few weeks.

Gunter, Williams and Ward. Who is the fourth?

Only 29 ?
Who is he playing for ?
He's surely got a few years left as a busy box to box player ?

Swindon. League Two. Nearly always plays. 13 goals in 67 appearances as a midfielder since August 2021. Jody Morris is his manager.

Is 29 his showbiz age? Seems like he’s been around for years.

tbf Page seems to have managed this one well. He has allowed two loyal stalwarts to publicly walk away on their terms rather than being left out of the squad for Croatia/Latvia.
You could argue it could have happened pre-Qatar for Williams and allowed Luke Harris to get some squad bonding but it was never going to make a material difference to what happened there.
It does put to bed the most hyperbolic song known to man about his prowess with a football though.

Williams was very talented, his injury record really held him back, a bit like a few other Welsh players
he is very well thought of by the Swindon fans, becoming a bit of a hero for them

Seems to be well liked by team mates a fans alike wherever he plays. Popular guy.
As said above injuries probably held him back as his talent is above L2 for sure.

If he pays us the £400k valuation he can join us again.
Wasn't overly impressed on his period with Cardiff , when he first signed I was looking forward to seeing a regular international player with lots of experience???

Over 50 premier league appearances under his belt at an early age as well. Must've been something there.

All joking aside, I know a few Swindon lads and they are amazed we let him go

Not sure where you've got that from. Williams played 223 minutes of Premier League football in 12 appearances and I think they were all as a substitute.

Is it really amazing that a player who isn't good enough for the Championship can still look decent in League Two?

Bale, Allen, Gunter, J.Williams.

We are not in a position to whistle
We are facing many years of making bubble and squeak

Even when he was fit, which wasn't often, he looked totally ineffective for us. Any suggestion we should revisit must have a solid basis of amnesia

Helen Ward.
Bale and Allen were more than a few weeks ago!

Yes, you're correct, my mistake.

Bale and Allen were more than a few weeks ago!You were replying to MacAdder, who I assume was referring to the 4 players from the World Cup squad who have retired.

So am I. Although we (management) didn’t think Wintle and McGuiness were good enough for our squad. Says it all.
You were replying to MacAdder, who I assume was referring to the 4 players from the World Cup squad who have retired.
I assumed that too.
But he referenced 'four Welsh greats gone in the space of a few weeks'.
Bale announced his retirement at the beginning of January; Allen at the beginning of February.
Helen Ward was a guest on the latest EJFOF talking about her decision last week to retire as a Welsh international after 15 years, 102 caps and 44 goals for the national team. She's up there with Jess Fishlock, Tash Harding, Sophie Ingle and Angharad James to break the 100 cap barrier. Maybe more of a 'great' than Joniesta?

It's ok Sludge is allowed to spend his day on the wind up.
