Heathrow chosen for expansion with third runaway
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37760187
This is a UK wide decision isn't it?. People say it is london-centric but it was the biggest airport in the world not so long ago. It will be again. A huge asset to the UK.
How can the Green Party etc complain about it?. They say it is unnecessary polluting.
At the same time they wish for an open policy on migration. How do they suppose the UK gathers wealth to sustain our living standards and economy?. Planting trees?.
An open door migration policy with a reduction in production.........We all want to save the planet, but at times they target the wrong things.
We maybe should set the standard, but honestly if they think the UK is bad look at the far East.

Re: Heathrow chosen for expansion with third runaway
If or when the Western Rail Access Programme is completed, access by train to Heathrow from south Wales will be greatly improved.
http://www.networkrail.co.uk/westernraillinktoheathrow/
Passengers travelling by train from Cardiff will change at Reading for Heathrow, rather than changing at Paddington as they do now. Also, people arriving at Heathrow won't have to travel east into London to eventually go west to Wales.

Re: Heathrow chosen for expansion with third runaway
Isn't it great how they can spend million on this, but we are one of only two countries in the EU without electrified rail. One day we'll wake up and realise they're having us on

Plaid's Jonathan Edwards has argued that a "Barnett consequential" of around £1 billion should go to Wales if all the public transport improvements required for Heathrow expansion are implemented. He's been arguing along similar lines regarding HS2 and Crossrail. Don't forget that the Great Western Mainline is being electrified and if the south Wales Metro is ever built then much of this will be electrified rail too.
Your statement regarding the EU is incorrect as Malta, Cyprus and Northern Ireland have no electrified rail. What is true is that Wales' rail network has been underinvested for 50 years but this is now changing. However we have a long way to go before we catch up to most English regions, let alone those in the remainder of Europe. Hopefully, Traws Link Cymru's campaign to reinstate the line from Carmarthen to Aberystwyth will be successful. Plaid secured the funds for a detailed feasibility study from the Welsh government last week and Barnett consequentials could fund the £500 million cost.
The Heathrow link to Wales would be great news for us though, in my opinion.

Agree with you on electrified rail but the Heathrow expansion will be beneficial to Wales too. It's not an "either or" scenario.

Re: Heathrow chosen for expansion with third runaway
Reading more about it I'd chain myself to my house if the government decided to bulldoze it.
I can't find anything on how much the people will be compensated for being forced to move. Can't really put a price on some family homes though can you?.

The homeowners will get the market value of their homes plus 25% plus legal fees, stamp duty and moving costs. Not a bad deal but agree with you on not putting a price on the family home, must be awful. Houses adjacent to the development but not scheduled to be demolished will be offered the choice of staying or going and will be offered the above deal.

Re: Heathrow chosen for expansion with third runaway
David Cameron (despite his personal views and whether actions supported or not) seemed to speak of green policies and being part of the EU. May seems to have always wanted to leave the EU and is now trying to make it up to businesses who fear the result of these actions by granting them a new runway while completely trampling over London's green credentials.
People may have been scared of the "liberal elite" bogeyman but it has been replaced by the authoritarian conservative who on one hand speaks to centralists and the other acts in a way that makes UKIP MEP's say it's gone a bit too far right.

Less motorway pollution for Londoners then ?? lets build two and catch up with most of the main airports in Europe who have four .
When you listen to the "no's it does smell of self preservation to the electorate ,toughest thing in politics is making difficult decisions, and defending the reasons , easy to stand on the sidelines and just protest .

There are house owners who are most concerned with the deal they can get and there are homeowners most concerned with their home.

In the grand scheme of things a handful of homeowners shouldn't have the power to hold the rest of the country back, it might seem cruel but there is a bigger picture really.
Anyway, getting emotionally attached to buildings is a bit weird.

Lots of people don't like him, but I think he talks a lot of sense.

Vapour trails can cause cloud cover and reduce sunlight, some things are just more important

If you want a bit of sun use one of the bird birds in the sky causing the vapour trails and get some real sun. It's win win.

Will all of our crops and solar panels fit on so they can grab a bit of sun too? :hehe:

Radio 5 had a lady on yesterday and she was all for it, her house would be removed and she faced relocation , but would be rewarded and will get a quieter life , she impressed me as she spoke about new job and business opportunities for others ,being important to the area. She got my vote.
All the rest on were trying to hold onto their positions in life by making populists statements .

Re: Heathrow chosen for expansion with third runaway
They should build another at Gatwick aswell.
Another positive/negative of brexit. Europe wouldn't have allowed the pollution levels. Now we can pollute as much as we like.:facepalm:

Jon Edwards is great. But remember Wales is getting 0% Barnett from HS2.
I don't believe for a single second that we'll get a penny for the Heathrow expansion. We're too easy to push to the side, no backbone from our leading party or the voters.
