Ain't that the truth.
Sky offered me a discount about 6 years ago, discount for 10 months, 18 month contract. "Price will go from £52 to £90 in December, but call us in November and we'll simply give you a new deal". "Is that guaranteed". "Yes sir"
Call them in November - no deals available. I terminated the contract based on the breach, they are suddenly offering me £45 a month. Told them I was still cancelling.
"What are you going to do for TV now?"
"I'm going to Netflix".
"You can't compare Netflix with us, WE have THREE HUNDRED channels". Aye, funnily enough even after cancelling we were still getting about 200 of the channels as they were free-to-air.
"SKY SPORTS, ONLY £20 a MONTH"; but to get it you have to pay for the shit you don't want.
Same as most companies but you only ever get treated like a loyal customer when you are signing up for the first time or about to quit.
Do it with almost anything these days, get the renewal quote through, it's usually gone up, ring them up to cancel, "sir we are unable to match that price I'm afraid" they might offer a small reduction or will tell you more about the product you already have for another minute or so and then "I'll just pop you through to our cancellations team".
"sir we have magically been able to reduce that price for you to value your loyalty".
It's such bullshit and I know from family members alone that most people just keep paying the increase.
It's the easiest option, carry on. It's also the most expensive. I had an insurance company give me a renewal that shot up by 20%. I found another company that did it for cheaper than the previous year's premium. Called them to cancel, got offered a deal better than the one I was offered by a rival firm, but still cancelled because of the treatment. I know I will do the same thing to the insurers I am currently with next year.
I have it on very good authority that sky are struggling badly at the moment.
Obviously many people cancelled with no live sport for months and the return rate is not anywhere near what they were expecting
More and more people are asking for a discount, many pubs and clubs not taking their sports anymore, the rise and rise of Netflix and perhaps the biggest threat IPTV
Profit figures and revenue will be very disappointing this year and not looking good for the future either
