Sounds more romantic perhaps, Newtown was over the railway bridge from Adam Street. It’s now an industrial estate off Tyndall Street.

Re: Fancy a pint....at The Vulcan?
Will they also be offering £10 baggies around the side of the pub ?
Asking for a friend Officer.

Re: Fancy a pint....at The Vulcan?
Always rated St Fagan's highly. I’ll always suggest it to any newcomers to Cardiff as it’s a very unique attraction you can’t find in many other places.
I’ve not been for a good few years now but this is a good excuse to try get across on a nice summer’s day.

yeah the whole area was awash with pubs at one time (and brothels), I remember reading about a book someone was doing about the area that sounded very interersting, not sure if it was ever released though.

Re: Fancy a pint....at The Vulcan?
I was only talking about the Vulcan on Tuesday, we were in London for a few days and went to Churchills war rooms, I said to my mrs, The Vulcan must be opening this year sometime
We love St Fagans, its a decent 5 hour day out, accessible to all as its free to get in, though we always buy lunch and a ice cream / coffee and chuck a few quid away in the gift shop to help the running costs
not a beer drinker, but will be interesting to see what Glamorgan Brewing Co come up with, a IPA ( of some type I guess )

Hopefully not IPA, you can't get away from the stuff these days and 99% of it is shite
I'd like to see sometihng in the style of a beer from the 1910s as something a bit diffrent

Re: Fancy a pint....at The Vulcan?
Bet it'l be f'king lager and some kind of keg "creamflow" shite.
They won't do enough turnover to have real ale.

Re: Fancy a pint....at The Vulcan?
No for me .
I went to original a few times including a wonderful Xmas Eve talking to a bunch of fruit loops but wonderful characters.
They had a fab black elvis statue playingna saxophone, to give it a special ambiance .
A few lads came in and swiped an old table which did confuse the old fella who went fora leak outside and found on his return his pint was on the floor .
The old bearded lady justb kept on playing darts didn’t batter an eyelid just smirked as she downed another cider.
The barman looked very bemused, just nodded to the table thieves then suggested to the tabless fella as he returned from outside tinkle to find another table whilst some remained. ..
Lets hope the toilet is authentic, and still outside
Halcyon times..

Maybe one of those 'craft' beers, perhaps with a light, fruity flavour. Can't recall where [!!] but a few months' ago walked into a pub where there were probably a dozen or so different 'pumps', not one proper beer. Not even a bottle in their chillers..

Re: Fancy a pint....at The Vulcan?
From what I understand, the opening event is ticket only, and it sold out weeks ago. You will be able to go along after the opening day, though, but only when the Museum grounds themselves are open. So it's limited hours, then.
It also struck me that if all the people who claim to have drunk there actually did, then it might still be open, because the place would have been packed every night. Mind you, who needs a nice old pub, when you have a car park to build?
Personally, my only memory of the place was going past it on Sunday lunchtimes, and seeing rows of black motorbikes lined up outside. I haven't seen any mention of this anywhere else, but for a long time during what must have been the seventies, it was the regular haunt of local biker gangs.

you've just described 90% of pubs these days
this obsession with cirtussy hops in craft beers is terrible. I'm sure it's because they don't know how to make a proper beer taste nice, so they just bung as much citrus flavour in to mask everything else

I don't think that anyone actually knows what any of that shit means anyway. It's just marketing 'Buzz' talk. I'm not a drinker, but when i used to have the odd pint i couldn't believe (After tasting them) that people would throw Carlsberg, Carling, Fosters etc down their necks. Fosters tastes like melted plastic. It truly is disgusting.

Re: Fancy a pint....at The Vulcan?
I don't need all this craft ale. Give me a decent pint brewed by a decent established brewer such as Green King, Flowers, Badgers, Theakstons or Ruddles.
It's such a relief to find a pint of Abbot Ale in a pub these days, when the rest of the bars' options are tasteless lagers or grapefruit IPA.

Re: Fancy a pint....at The Vulcan?
Hence my post about the availability of baggies for a tenner
