No booze allowed.....that’s going to go down well
Any news on fans in grounds (Wales)?
From Friday onwards, pubs in Wales will have to shut by 6:00pm, but they're not allowed to sell alcohol before 6:00pm anyway.
This will help to save Christmas, apparently.
Wales - Mark Drakeford's personal nanny state.
It’s been coming so not surprised. I don’t see why restaurants can’t stay open later if not serving booze though. We as a family eat out quite a bit and it’s just the 4 of us shown to our table with pretty much no contact with other diners whatsoever.
Oh well is what it is. Good luck to the fuzz trying to stop the anti covid me me me people having house parties. The virus will spread even more in those environments.
Pubs shouldn't even be open. I can't understand why people are so up in arms about the government trying to put rules in place when it's ****ing obvious that left to their own devices, most people will do the stupidest thing possible.
Have you seen the number of pictures on the internet of people gathered in public places where the photographer has captioned it "look at these idiots"? That's how selfish and stupid people are.
You are right, it will spread even more now in those areas it was bad already....up the sticks, bleanau gwent or whatever. Been fine every time I’ve been to a pub, which isn’t many, but a good few metres gap. Feel sorry for them in some ways but they will no doubt be heavily compensated like they were in the summer. More grants becoming available now
Not a care in the world about peoples jobs , livelihood or the future of Wales ,appalling decision , you get what you vote for though .
In my experience, most people will not do the stupidest things possible. A percentage will for sure, but not most people. Of course, you're talking from the good old U S of A, so maybe that's the situation in Trumpland.
People here are fed up with everyone being treated like stupid children because a small minority apparently can't behave themselves. People are fed up with restrictions that mean they are unable to socialise with family and friends in any way, shape or form. People are fed up with the rules changing every couple of weeks. People are fed up with the hopeless contradictions contained within the guidelines. People are fed up with seeing businesses spend large amounts of time, effort and money to make their premises as safe as possible, only for the government to close them down again anyway. Stuff like that.
Its not pubs that the issue its the governance of Wales .
in Cardiff on Friday the shops were rammed queues outside Primark etc no problem there , pub have had the best control systems we have seen NHS app / tracking and trace running .
The trouble for someone like Drakeford he is unaffected and not of the working class , he thinks oooh pub , oooh boooze , oooh all pissed, which is a bloody nonsense , but an easy target so he can appear strong and mask the inefficiencies of his other failing policies around education ,homelessness , and pre -covid health service , pubs have the best systems operation I've seen , and I've been in a few during Covid , shops though , dreadful .
What folk fail to grasp or care about this will hurt private owned businesses , young peoples jobs , at least 100k of folk in work , after the hit this year lots of these businesses were looking for the safety net of Xmas , he could have easily set out a rule where you can book in and out of a pub like a restaurant via a table slot , not allow entry unless via a NHS app scans , limit it to two hours, group four , those premises who broke the rules reported and closed immediately .
How is it the government's fault that socializing with family and friends is not safe? I'll admit that both your government and our outgoing administration has not done the best job. The situation is exacerbated here by the size of the country and the rights of states.
It was obvious that there was going to be a second wave of Covid as soon as the weather changed. Scientists have been warning about it for months. A country as small and densely populated as the UK should be in lockdown. It wouldn't be the best thing for everyone on an individual basis, but it would be best for everyone as a whole. So the government tries to make concessions. Things go wrong. So they change the rules. People shouldn't be going into pubs. A place where strangers congregate and drink intoxicating beverages. But they want to. So the government had to make rules. Pubs were to be closed at 10pm and everyone lost their shit. "It's ridiculous". "What's the difference between 10pm and 12am?" I should imagine there's a pretty significant difference. And I should imagine there is data to back it up.
Your faith in most people is admirable. But don't forget the Welsh government was elected by a majority. The UK government England a depressingly huge one. And don't forget Brexit.
I don't live in Trumpland by the way. And pretty soon no one else will.
I have very little faith in most people. Indeed, I have very little faith in our species, full stop. However, having been to a couple of pubs and restaurants on a small handful of occasions since this crap began, I can testify that a large majority of the people who were present were being as careful as possible, and the staff at the venues themselves had done pretty much everything asked of them in terms of social distancing measures.
We had a two-week national lockdown here in Wales a short while ago. That was supposed to 'save Christmas' and give us a bit more freedom until the New Year at least. It hasn't.
As for your claim that there is data to back up the decisions the governments are making, that has long since ceased to be the case. These muppets stopped 'following the science' months ago. And that's according to the scientists themselves.
Drakeford staed publicly that pubs and restaurants were not the cause of the rise in cases. Tgat it is community mixing in each others houses and families. Then he closes pubs open them again and bans the. From selling alcohol He may as well ban faragsa from selling fuel it might gave more affect.
Alcohol does not cause coronavirus infection!!!
The pub is traditionally the heart of many communities and he is systematically destroying them. More infection is spread in other places and amongst families and neighbours but he cannot ban them
But he thinks he has to be seen to be doing something so he puts the boot into pubs again
If the numbers don't drop dramatically do you think he will open them again?
Not a chance
The Welsh government was elected by A majority. Don't make me laugh. Only about 25% of the population voted in favour of having a government at all and at the first election the winning party got about 11% of the available vote.
We have it and we must live with it but let's not make things up to justify the things it does which are clearly either politically driven or just not right.
Tom Simmons, the chef and co-owner of Thomas in Pontcanna, Cardiff, said: "The spend in our restaurant is around 70% on food and drink - and we will lose customers who know they can't have a drink with their meal. Many won't come back because of that."
"I don't see any reason or logic behind this. All it will do is lead to people gathering at home and drinking instead - it would be structured with restaurants and pubs, not in people's homes."
The chief executive of one of Wales' largest breweries says she wants the Welsh Government to prove that Covid is being spread in pubs and restaurants.
"Where is the scientific evidence that you are more at risk in a pub than you are at home or in a supermarket," said Connie Parry of Tomos Watkin brewery in Swansea.
Meanwhile, Folly Farm adventure park and zoo in Pembrokeshire announced it would be closing, saying it was "heavily reliant" on the indoor part of the business.
Ben Francis, of the Federation of Small Business, said it was "incredibly important" that promised funding "can be rolled out as a matter of urgency".
He added: "There is no getting away from the fact that today's announcement will come as a devastating blow to those indoor entertainment and hospitality firms that have fought tooth and nail to protect jobs, remain viable and provide a safe environment for their staff and customers this year."
Hidden in a Times article, basically all this takes people's eyes off Brexit. If hospitality is closed = less demand for optional food and drink purchases. This frees up transport/warehousing to keep the flow of food going post Brexit. Better to have people moan about pubs closing/restrictions on groups gathering than have riots on the streets when the food doesnt get through to supermarkets....thinks government. Keep people at home, stifle protest, take back control.
There's not one bit of scientific evidence that links 'lockdowns' with reductions in Covid cases. What we have is politics, not science. Politicians from whatever Country or political party are afraid of one thing - blame. They reason - probably rightly - that being blamed for the complete ruination of economies for a decade is nothing compared with having 'blood on their hands' for ignoring their medical 'advisors'. Coupled with the fact that most of the key players in the current Govt. will step down once it appears they've 'beaten. the epidemic, you can see why politicians are carrying on along the same path without deviation..
What was the point in allowing all these pop up Christmas bars to set up in the last week or so.
